Hanks is now on steroids. Prior to the renovation it was always a great place with great staff, great food, and great service. Now it’s wonderfully renovated with an atmosphere that mixes the best of Chadd‘s Fords ambience with fantastic food and very, very friendly service. What a nice overhaul this has become. We came on a Tuesday morning because the crowds are so large over the weekends. Find a great time to come when it’s not so busy to enjoy the experience.

Stopped in at Hank’s Place in Chadds Ford for breakfast and really enjoyed the food. I went with the bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on a roll — it was simple but really solid. The egg was cooked perfectly, the cheese melted nicely, and the bacon had a good crisp without being too greasy. The roll was fresh and held everything together well.

We also tried the avocado toast topped with eggs, greens, and a drizzle of sauce — definitely more on the flavorful/fresh side, with a good balance of creamy, tangy, and savory. The home fries were hearty and nicely browned, though a little uneven in crispness.

Service was friendly, the food came out quickly, and the outdoor seating made for a relaxing morning. Prices felt fair for the portions and quality.

Overall: a great local breakfast/lunch spot with that classic diner-comfort feel but also some fresher, lighter options. I’d definitely come back.

Food was good. think we got a new waitress. couldn’t remember what we ordered to drink. We both ordered SOS on white toast. I some how got wheat toast. No one came back to see if the order was correct. It was good. probably better if on white toast though.
You also can’t tell how long your wait will be. so you are just standing on the ramp hoping it won’t be long.

I went here for a quick brunch with my parents on Saturday and it ended up being anything but quick. The line went out the door and we probably waited almost 45 minutes to be seated.

The food was good but it didn’t seem like the Hanks Place I remembered. Perhaps it’s a case of rose colored glasses. I like the new building but the table setup seemed sterile and inefficient.

I would come back because it’s a great breakfast spot. I do not, however, think it’s worth the wait.

It’s our third visit since Hanks Place re-opened in the Summer. We wanted to see if the crowding, the long wait lines down the ramp as well as the deafening noise had subsided.
We’re so happy Hanks is back in Chadds Ford. The same friendly and quick service and great diner food.
Plus the entrance ramp is fun! Only a few people still can’t read the big sign and go up the down staircase.
We got there about 11:20 AM on a Monday. No wait. Lots of small tables open.
Anthony and Katie were both working the floor. And my husband kept raving about his breakfast.
The one problem remains the noise level. I am familiar with the noted architectural firm and knew someone who designed for them many years ago. Plus I actually worked in one of their buildings for about 20 years.
So why would they design a popular restaurant with a visually attractive barn ceiling with sound bouncing off every angle?
I studied acoustics in college but am at a loss to know how to remediate this annoyance. Their architect’s should take care of it for free.
Otherwise, a great experience. We’ll just try to stick to un-crowded times.

I know this place is historic and very popular among locals. Now that the renovation is complete, it feels fresh and new. After the changes, I see so much potential for it to become even better, so I want to share some constructive feedback they can work on.

The food was excellent, which is the most important thing for any restaurant. However, the flow and structure for handling customers could be improved. For example, there should be a system to record the names of people waiting in line. Since there was no such system, it felt disorderly. The side door, marked “No Entrance,” should also be locked, as some people still use it, adding to the confusion.

The payment process is also unusual. After the meal, you have to figure out who you need to pay, which can be inconvenient.

I truly wish the best for them, and I hope this feedback is helpful. The view and atmosphere are both wonderful.

Visited Hank’s newly rebuilt Chadds Ford location and left pretty disappointed. Food took a long time to arrive, and when it did, the Meat Lovers omelet was very small for the price. Instead of a simple substitution of fruit for potatoes and toast, we were charged an extra $3.95. On top of that, there was even a plate-splitting fee of $4.50 because my 4- and 5-year-olds shared two large pancakes when no kids menu options were offered for breakfast. Lastly charged an additional fee for debit card.

Service was polite, but between the long wait, small portions, and extra charges, the experience didn’t feel worth it.

They’re back at their original location in a brand new building but with the same focus on quality and customer service. They overcame tragedy with courage…a wonderful experience awaits you…just go! Tip: The mushroom soup is probably the best here in the Mushroom Capital of the World!
