To my tastes, the sauce was a sweet and tangy with a small amount of heat. Not my favorite, but not the worst sauce. It is a thin sauce, easy to pour from the Styrofoam cup it comes in.
The pulled pork was juicy and delicious, no problems with it. The bun started coming apart from the juiciness though… Better buns might help.
The fries could use more seasoning. Unfortunately the fries don’t add much to the taste combo when they are just fried potatoes with a few specks of seasoning…
The Mac N Cheese is delicious and creamy with some pepper in it. It stole the show. But if I wanted good Mac N Cheese, I can make that at home. I came for good meat and potatoes, and those could be better.
All in, it’s okay. If I was seeking the best BBQ in town, I’d keep looking from here.
One of the standout things for me has always been how tender their BBQ meats are. Whether it’s brisket, pulled pork, or ribs, the texture is just right every time. There’s never any chewing struggle everything just melts in your mouth. That kind of consistency is rare these days, especially in spots that have been around this long. Their BBQ spicy sauce also adds the perfect touch without overpowering the natural flavors of the meat.
And the sides? Just as impressive. From their beans to the mac and cheese, everything complements the main dish perfectly. You can tell they put just as much care into the sides as they do the meats, which isn’t always the case at other BBQ joints. Every plate feels like a full, complete meal comfort food done right. You walk out full and satisfied without needing anything extra.
I also have to give major credit to their customer service. Every time I’ve visited, I’ve been greeted with a warm welcome and friendly service. Most recently, we decided to go on Father’s Day, fully expecting a long wait and a packed dining area. To our surprise, we were given the food in just 20 minutes, and the dining area was surprisingly relaxed. It made for an even better experience not rushed, not crowded, just good food in a comfortable setting.
Honey Bear’s BBQ continues to be a top-tier spot in Phoenix in my eyes. They’ve been doing it right for over 10 years, and I don’t see myself stopping any time soon. Between the quality of the food, the friendly staff, and the consistently great experiences, it’s a place that earns every return visit. Whether you’re a BBQ lover or just looking for a satisfying meal, you really can’t go wrong with Honey Bear’s.
First, my sandwich wasn’t even assembled. They had a small hamburger bun wrapped in aluminum foil separate from the meat. The meat was in a container. The bun wasn’t toasted, buttered, or warm; just a sorry, little dry bun. I had never had a deconstructed brisket sandwich before in my life!
Second, they don’t give you any onions or pickles with the sandwich, but they do give you BBQ sauce. The sandwich is more than $15, so they should at least give you more than meat, BBQ sauce, and a little dry hamburger bun. The sandwich definitely is not worth the price, and the meat-to-bun ratio was way off.
Third, I should have known that something wasn’t right when my order was ready within four minutes of placing it. There was no thought put into my order at all.
I know Phoenix isn’t known for BBQ, but good grief, this sandwich could have been much better. I do not recommend this place, and I definitely won’t be going back.
