I was really excited to try the new B. Merrell’s location in Midland. We went on Sunday around 2 p.m. and ordered one smothered chicken lunch portion and one dinner portion. The dinner plate only came with about half a chicken breast more than the lunch and didn’t feel worth the extra cost.
Both meals came with the same portion of sides. We chose steamed broccoli, but it had no seasoning and was so undercooked it was difficult to cut with a knife. The mac and cheese was bland, mushy, and even served cold (see photo). The only highlight was the sweet potato waffle fries my grandson ordered—they were good, but they added $1 extra to the dinner.
We ate inside, but the seating was very uncomfortable. The chair backs hit awkwardly at my waist and leaned back at an odd angle. On top of that, we were seated near the patio door, where traffic was tight even though the restaurant wasn’t busy.
Overall, I left disappointed. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t return or recommend this location.

First visit to the new location. We were guided to a tiny two person table with a huge napkin holder and two large condiment bottles taking up a third of the table. I declined that table. They grudgingly directed us to a larger table. We both ordered the grilled chicken, broccoli and a side salad. The salads came out quickly but the lettuce on the salad was dripping wet. I don’t think they understand how to use a salad spinner. Dressing won’t stick to wet lettuce and there was a puddle of water in the bottom of the bowl. The tomato on the salad consisted of tiny, tiny bits of tomato. So small you couldn’t actually stick them with the fork. I tried without much success to trap some tomato between the lettuce. As I got through with the salad, I was able to fish them out of the puddle of water by scooping them up with the fork. Even then some fell through that. Twenty minutes later the grilled chicken and broccoli finally came out. But there was mold on the cut end. When I asked the server for the check, I showed her the moldy broccoli. She took my cash to the bar for change. While she was there a very tall woman who had been wandering around the dining room passed behind me, tossed a check on the table and kept walking, never said a word. They had taken $3.50 off the check. But what struck me was the contemptuous manner that she tossed the check on the table behind my back. No comment, no apology, no explanation. Its pretty clear that there are no restaurant professionals involved in the restaurant. And we will not be back.

You have to park a distance from the entrance to the restaurant, but it is not too far.
The chicken was tender and the sweet potato fries were the best I have had. They have a fun outdoor seating area with a giant Connect 4 game and where kids can run around. The interior is low lit but colorful, and it was clean. The chairs are padded and comfortable. You could hear the music but easily hear one another. There was a kind lady going around and checking to make sure everyone was satisfied at their table. This is a great restaurant.

8/21/24 update: Enjoyed the onion straws for the first time . Chicken fingers and macaroni and cheese are fine but not special. /// I have been here twice. Both visits the food was good, the service was fine and the value was good. Nice diversity of choices. Lunch both times, no wait. The atmosphere is nice, but I have heard they will relocate near Beaver Run next year.

If you love wings, B. Merrell’s is an absolute must. These wings are genuinely to die for. Perfectly crispy, cooked just right, and tossed in some of the most original and flavorful sauces you will find anywhere. There are so many great options that it is hard to choose, and honestly, you cannot go wrong with any of them.
If you are new to the area, visiting Columbus, or coming to see a loved one who is stationed here, this place needs to be on your list. It is one of those spots locals love for a reason. The new location is also so cute and well done, making it a great place to hang out, not just grab food.
The pricing is also fantastic, especially for the quality and portions you get. It feels like real value, which is rare these days. On top of that, the staff is incredibly welcoming and friendly, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.

We had a great time celebrating my grandson’s 18th birthday! We had 30 people in our party and sat outside on the patio under the lighted tent.

The service was horrible. The food when we finally got it 40 mins after ordering and asking was cold. The only thing hot was the steak and cheese and im assuming thats because it was wrapped in aluminum foil. And then when we got the check and gave our card, our waitress gave my bank card to one of the other workers and he was asking around who’s it was. We didn’t get one of our to go drinks. We loved it at the last location but I have no idea if it was an off night or ehat but disappointed doesn’t justify how we felt. The only good thing is that we sat outside and our kids were able to play.
