Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes. For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger. The term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business. Today, Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.

Reviews
We went across the street first for gas and the place looked closed, but after reading reviews figured just dining room was closed and it was, due to limited staff. They are allowing walk ups through the drive through as well though.
However our order was accurate, fresh and hot. The lady working was very friendly and even offered us some pup cups for our dogs. We took one for them to share and they devoured it.
I understand some times places have bad days or just bad staff (or even lack of staff) and based off some of the recent reviews you may be reluctant, but I’d give them a chance, we had a good experience.
Avoid this place if you value your money and your mouth. I just had the worst experience I think I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Driving the I70 to Florida, I stopped here for a bite at 4:30pm today. Spent $30 in food for two people. Ordered an orange freeze milkshake which costs $4.99 and it tasted like chemicals, not oranges. Not even a little bit. It was a bad taste. Not tolerable, not edible in the least. We also got a banana shake that was just fine. I asked to exchange the shake for another flavor. The kid at the register comes back with his manager in tow (a very young Latino kid with a mustache). First of all, the “manager” comes to the counter with a gigantic hammer in his hand. No smile, no customer service, nothing. He proceeds to tell me that he will not exchange the shake because “I’m not going to waste product.” I asked him to take a spoon and taste it. He smirked and said he wouldn’t do that. I continued to insist that the shake tastes terrible and asked him if he thought it was right for me to pay $5 for a bad shake. He just looked at me. I said fine, then we’d like a refund. He said “I’m not doing that either. You bought the item, you can drink it or throw it away, your choice “
I was completely flabbergasted. I could barely even speak I was so shocked. I asked for a higher manager and he said there wasn’t one. Remember he’s standing there this whole time gripping a sledgehammer and black greasy hands and no nametag. Absolutely disgusting service and once we started eating in the car, absolutely disgusting food as well. The chicken sandwich looked like a beige hockey puck and tasted like freezer burn. It went into the garbage after one bite.
This might explain why the parking lot was so empty we thought it was closed at first. You know that means locals don’t eat here, only travelers off the interstate who don’t know any better. Whoever owns this place should have a conversation with their “manager” about how to treat customers.
Skip this place at all costs. The are plenty of places to eat in this area that will replace bad food.
Waited 10 minutes to be seated.
It took 15 minutes before our order was taken.
Our food didn’t arrive for an hour.
The top of the bowl of chili was hot. The bottom of the bowl was cold. They do say cold air drops.
Listen to this review and all of the other reviews left in the last six months: DON’T EAT HERE!!!
