Incredible local gem.
This family owned, locally operated burger spot is one of my favorites. The place is super clean, the staff is friendly, and the service is consistently great. Parking was really easy, and they even had a very clean high chair, which was perfect for my two year old. The music fits the rustic Tacoma vibes, my son was dancing along with it.
I always get the peanut butter burger here because it’s the only place I can find one, and it’s always fresh, juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. They also have milkshakes, a wide selection of beers, free refill sodas, and fast, super good service.
They’re also on DoorDash, which is awesome for to go orders.
Highly recommend checking this place out! Consistently great food, affordable, quick, and just a great vibe all around.

I have now eaten at Spanky’s twice in my week-long trip to this area. Order at the counter, they’ll bring it to you table. First visit I had a Spanky burger w/cheese on a gluten free bun which didn’t fall apart halfway through the burger. The second visit I got the gluten free chicken tenders. Each menu item came with fresh, steaming-hot fries, straight from the dedicated fryer. The staff were very knowledgeable about gluten free options. Their suggestion was to not get the aloha burger since they could not make that GF, but all other burgers were easily modified. Also there are items like onion rings and potato chip chicken tenders (right above the GF tenders) on the menu that have gluten, so use common sense.

This is such a hidden gem of a burger place. I got recommended it by a friend and I tried it once and was amazed. Tried it twice, was blown away. And thus third time it just transformed me. Staff was great, owners super kind, and it was just overall a great atmosphere. I’ll definitely be scheduling another visit with many more in the future.

Successful celiac-safe trip for some delicious burgers, fries, and shakes. Staff was super friendly, helpful, and consciencious about celiac needs. Dedicated fryer, dedicated prep area for GF, and clean/decontam for GF shakes. Will definitely be back again next time we’re in Tacoma!

Delicious bacon cheeseburger. The meat was well seasoned, the topping were fresh and the ratio of toppings to meat was perfect. The fries were also fresh and plentiful but could have used a bit more salt. The service was fast and friendly and vibe was relaxing.

The one thing that sets this place apart from other burger joint is their sidewinders fries, which are their spiral-cut style fries. They’re thick yet crispy and fluffy! A must-order to pair with their juicy spank-ed burger.

Street parking is a bit difficult due to other businesses in the area. The atmosphere is a tad industrial feeling. The service was fair. The prices were pretty affordable. There is wheel chair access and high chairs are available. Place your order at the counter and have a seat whereever you’d like. I ordered the buffalo (grilled) chicken sandwich. It was very good. The bun wasn’t chewy or tough and the chicken breast was tender. The fries were absolutely phenomenal! The other party that I dined with had the bacon Bleu burger. The burger was cooked to perfection with ample toppings. I’m pleased with our dining selection.

The burger is really good. I’m just not sure it’s really as good as everyone says. It’s still a fantastic burger experience. It’s a smash burger and it’s reasonable, but with new contenders line Radnor’s or more traditional places like Red Wagon, Stacks, Burger Broiler, Flipping Out to name a few or regular bar fare places, it changes the appeal compared to a place where there’s a sit down environment that’s nearly as good in it’s own right.

Spanky Burger & Brew is hands down one of the best burger spots I’ve ever been to. The burgers are top notch, the fries are fresh, and the onion rings are actually delicious (not the frozen kind you find most places). I’m jealous this place is independently owned because I wish we could open one up in Texas. Tacoma, you’ve got a gem here!
