Look like it would be a fun place to sit but the food was just far below expectations. Macaroni and cheese is not what Macaroni and cheese should be…this was just noodles and and watered down sauce no seasoning whatsoever…you can get better from a deli at your local grocery store. I also had the pull pork sandwich. The meat tasted like it was boiled not smoked or grilled. No seasoning whatsoever and the sauce tasted like water down ketchup but it has the consistency of gravy…either way terrible the waitress was nice though. If you want real Macaroni and cheese I suggest burning tree or saws. BBQ food should touch the soul not make your stomach turn upside down…I don’t even want an explanation I’m just giving a real review in real time.

Hubby and I passed this place daily and always see a breakfast crowd. We said we’d visit one day. Today was the day. I did a 4-bone rib sandwich with onion rings and baked beans. I got hubby a chicken dinner with fries and slaw. A new friend, Fran, treated me to banana pudding and it was delicious. The smoke is definitely on the ribs!

I’m very disappointed. This is the first time I’ve been to the new location, even though it’s been here several years now. When Ken’s was at the old place, it was one of my all time favorite spots for breakfast and lunch. This morning I brought my family in. It wasn’t heavily crowded, but it took a few minutes for them to figure out where to see those. The lady came out and asked what we wanted to drink. And walked away. I ordered coffee, and she came out and gave everybody their drinks, and gave me water. A few minutes later, she came back out with a cup, and a pot of coffee… Asked if we were ready to order, then walked over to another table to refill somebody’s coffee, and walked back towards the kitchen. I got her attention and asked if I could have my coffee. And she remembered that’s why she had a cup in her hand. The coffee was barely above lukewarm.

As we started to place our order, I wanted bacon. And she immediately said “oh yeah, we’re out of bacon for 30 minutes or so.” I’m not exactly sure what timing has to do with that, but it was very disappointing. Nonetheless. While trying to take our orders, she turned around and told the people behind us the same thing, and somebody else several tables over.
She got our orders, but for some reason I had to repeat mine a few times. She finally brought us our food, and we had to ask for silverware. We also got an explanation that apparently somebody had to go get another employee, and that was part of the reason why service wasn’t so good.
The food:
It was, okay at best. The smoked sausage was very greasy, to the point that I had to soak up a lot of the grease with several napkins before I could prep my biscuits and gravy and eat it from the same plate. The eggs, scrambled, were…dry and crumbly, if that makes sense. I will say, the biscuits and gravy were amazing!

Overall, a very disappointing visit. The server lady was very nice and friendly, but needs to focus on the customer she is taking care of.
The food has definitely gone downhill. And what kind of breakfast place runs out of bacon? I would wager since they do lunch and early dinner, they probably use bacon all day anyways…
I’m not sure if I’ll be back…makes me sad that an old favorite has gone down so much.

The breakfast experience was highly satisfactory. The biscuits were exceptionally large in size. The preparation of all items was executed with precision, resulting in optimal doneness. While the service was generally commendable, there was a noticeable delay in the delivery of the food. This can be attributed to the establishment being understaffed this morning. However, the exceptional quality of the food compensated for this minor inconvenience. I would confidently recommend this establishment for breakfast over the majority of other options. It is my opinion that the server, whose name I believe was Kay, is deserving of a salary increase in recognition of her outstanding service.

Ken’s BBQ has some pretty good BBQ. Highly recommend getting the chopped pork there. The regular barbeque sauce is a split between Memphis and South Carolina style sauce (a slightly thick vinegary sweet sauce). Do get their banana pudding as well (some of the better ones I’ve had here in the south). The ambiance is friendly and inviting, and the wait staff were attentive and served with a smile. It is tucked away further out from Birmingham, but it is worth the drive. I heard the breakfast here is pretty good as well, so I will be back for it next time I am in the area.

They are very unorganized…. waited for coffee until the end of the meal asked 4 times.. ordered pork tenderloin out comes a pork chop.. lol the sausage patties where hours old. Didn’t bring out everything order on the ticket. Eggs and pork chop where ok that is why I have the food 3 stars. The organization is horrible wont be back.

My husband has been visiting this restaurant since he was a boy. I’ve been with him several times for lunch, but not breakfast. I finally had time to go with him and it was so good! Biggest Biscuits, good portion of ham, although mine had the bone, and was a lot smaller than his. Hashbrowns were cooked just right!. Waitress was good at keeping all her tables happy.

Ken’s is a solid meat and three bbq joint. The service was fantastic, and our food came out extremely quick. Nothing to fancy, but it’s a solid fastball right down the middle. The smoked sausage was probably my favorite. They have a lighter and sweeter version of Alabama white sauce. A good spot to stop if you’re passing through.

Three of us went in and set down and all three Didn’t eat it. They had other things and said the same thing about there food as I did…
