The food was great and our server was very friendly. I feel that the prices were comparable to other restaurants in the area. I had a brisket salad- everything was very fresh. I would definitely come back.
We were seated right away; an outside table under a patio umbrella was available.
Aisha took good care of us the whole time.
The portion sizes (meats) were ample, but the food was… okay. I wasn’t expecting how mild the cherry wood smoke would be, so maybe that threw me off a bit.
The Corn Nuggets were really good. The Mac & Cheese and the Green Beans were tasty. The beans had pieces of bacon, but they weren’t ‘fatty’.
Everyone has their favorite BBQ, so my opinions are just that. The chicken [white quarter] was a little bit dry, which – I guess – is better than over-smoked and rubbery. It needed the sauce. [It’s a decent vinegar-based style.]
The brisket wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t really great, either. It had about 1/8″ smoke ring on one side, but there wasn’t the bark I look forward to with brisket. It was solid throughout; not all of the fat and collagen melted, so it probably could have used a while longer in the smoker. The flavor wasn’t much, so it benefited from the House sauce also.
By far, the best meat we had was the Pulled Pork. It didn’t have a lot of smoke flavor, but the fat and collagen were melted and the meat was tender and moist. [My apologies to those who hate that word.] The pork really didn’t need the sauce, unless you really want that additional flavor.
Will we go back? Maybe. We’ve driven past them for years, and now I’ve scratched that itch. But I won’t turn away a Late-night Pulled Pork Sandwich if I feel like it.
Would I dissuade someone from trying Casey’s? Absolutely not. They do what they do, and they do it well. By all means, give them a try and see if they are your jam.
Also: they charge 3.50 for drinks, and 0.50 for sides of sauce…with your barbecue…pretty pricey
The waiter wasn’t very friendly when we asked if the cinnamon butter was made with real dairy butter or margarine (vegetable-based butter). We asked twice to be sure, because it didn’t taste like dairy butter — and we’ve been to other places where they initially said it was butter, but after double-checking, it turned out to be margarine. We’ve never encountered a bad attitude in those situations before.
That’s why we asked twice here, since it didn’t seem like real butter — but the person we spoke to seemed annoyed. In our case, we don’t have any allergies, but we believe the situation could have been handled more professionally.
I didn’t give a one-star review because I don’t like leaving very low ratings, but we did leave feeling uneasy after that interaction.
Party of 2. Got seated right away on the covered patio with an excellent view over the water. Aisha did a great job with taking our order and table service.
Our meals were the Brisket sandwich on Texas toast Brisket quesadilla. Food got to the table in a timely manner and at good temperature.
No problems with the quesadilla, but the meat on the sandwich was dry. Definitely needed sauce, which was good, but sauce shouldn’t make up for adequate meat. Awesome, crisp sweet potato fries.
For me, the ambiance was a better experience than the meal.
