Reviews
We skipped starters. Our table ordered the two “lump” crab cakes with coleslaw and fries, the she-crab soup with a baked potato, and the jumbo shrimp with a baked potato and coleslaw.
Standouts:
• The coleslaw was excellent—creamy with a good celery-seed profile.
• The jumbo shrimp were plentiful and well prepared.
What missed the mark:
• The baked potatoes were fully cooked but not hot, not even enough to melt the butter.
• The she-crab soup had a nice consistency but was overly salty.
• The crab cakes, though decent, didn’t quite match the expectation of true lump crab as advertised.
Service was excellent, but considering the price point, we expected a slightly more elevated dining experience. That said, Edisto is a very small community and we visited in the off-season, so expectations are naturally adjusted.
Would I return while staying at Ocean Ridge? Probably not, as I’d try other options first — but I’m glad we had the chance to support a local business.
Unfortunately, this particular time was off a bit.
Our waitress was nice and worked to take care of things while it was clear that the restaurant was busy. I did have to ask for my tea a second time. Also, when the main courses came to the table, the kitchen had not finished mine and I had to wait while others were eating.
The atmosphere is visually okay with a beautiful view of the water, which I highly recommend taking a look before and/or after your meal.
The biggest thing about the space is that it’s extremely tight and people are constantly bumping into chairs and other people. Please know that when it’s the employees – I was disappointed they didn’t apologize for kicking the chairs as they served food.
Finally, the food –
As I said before, we eat here each year we come to town.
They started us out with barbecue pork rinds, which is new and they look good on the table. However, ours were dry, cold, and we had not yet received our drinks.
Next we had ordered the bacon wrapped scallops, which are served with a remoulade sauce and I had heard these were good. Unfortunately, these were dry and overcooked.
We also ordered hush puppies, which came out nice and hot with whipped butter. These are sweet to the taste, which is not what I prefer but that doesn’t mean they were bad. In fact, these went fast at our table!
Finally, I opted for the blackened swordfish special, with coleslaw and cheese grits. I had asked if the baked potato could come loaded and I was informed that they don’t do that anymore.
The cheese grits were yummy and the best thing of the night! The coleslaw is good.
FYI – I’m a fan of swordfish because it can be better than a steak when well prepared but on this night – I was very disappointed!
As the special of the night, I expected it to be a fresh catch but this fish tasted FISHY!
And if you are asking yourself “shouldn’t it taste like a fish because that’s what you ordered?” This fish was not fresh and most certainly should not have been offered as the special. I tried to add lemon juice but this just didn’t work and flavour was bad.
This was my first time being completely disappointed about the entire dining experience in all my years coming here.

Respectfully, I don’t know what has changed at Pressley’s but I hope this was just an off night or I worry that this long standing restaurant could eventually close.
You have to enter through the golf course security gate by the Windam. Check on with security for a pass.
We ordered calamari as an appetizer, and it was hands down the worst I’ve ever had — overpriced for how little you get, extremely chewy, barely fried, and served with marinara in a little plastic packet container like you’d get at a fast-food place. Absolutely unappetizing.
On the bright side, the bang bang shrimp our friends ordered was delicious. For mains, my boyfriend had the flounder sandwich, which was generous in portion, tasty, and fairly priced. I had the chicken piccata — while the flavor was good, the portion was shockingly small for $30. A tiny piece of chicken, very little pasta, and a burned piece of “garlic bread” with no garlic taste at all.
Our waitress was wonderful, but between the disappointing calamari and the overpriced portions, we left feeling the value just wasn’t there.
Edit: Came back Sept. 2025. Tried the fried flounder and it was definitely the best I’ve had on Edisto! Service was still great!
I would pass on hushpuppies next time because they were good, but not the best for the price of an app. I would try a different appetizer.
