The vibe inside was very fun, had a bar section and lots of tables for family dining. The staff were all extremely nice and thoughtful. And most importantly the food is simply exceptional!
Mole is one of my favorite Mexican foods, but i find that many places use premade mole or the chicken portion is tiny. But not at San Marcos, their mole is made in house, the perfect consistency, and balance between umami and sweetness. It is also served with perfectly cooked chicken breasts (yes plural) with all the fixins.
And their rib eye fajita is insane. Where have you ever been offered ribeye for a fajita before? Perfectly cooked and goes so well with their beans and rice. The price of everything is also super fair, especially given their huge portion sizes.
Whether you’re staying in Tahoe or passing though the great state of Nevada, if you’re a lover of Mexican food, stop by San Marcos grill for truly authentic and exceptional meal. Don’t forget to also get their spicy salsas to bring the whole meal together!
Drinks and apps…..
Sprite, water and one neat tequila shot. Told the hostess to choose the shot, she did great perfectly smooth tequila so that was a great start!!!
The Salsa is great and the bean dip is whole beans with tons of flavor it’s a bit different than typical refried bean dip with cheese topping but a great starting appetizer, don’t eat to much or you’ll have leftovers; it’s that good, especially when they are mixed. The salsa won’t burn so make sure and give it a try….
Dinner….
For Dinner we got a Chef surprise, only requirements are no squid and no octopus but a seafood mix with other meats.
While we waited I had a chance to look at the bar it’s probably the best tequila bar this side of Truckee California, which has the best of the best, again San Marcos isn’t far off if not equal…
Dinner shows up with a crazy seafood plate and the best Tamale I think I have ever had, the plate had it all crab, shrimp, clams , scallops and a few surprises served on a bed of traditional rice with what tasted like cod to me not 100% sure but it was that good. If it was a tilapia type fish then they killed it so overall having them whip up a whatever plate puts them at the top of my hell yeah list! Desert is inbound!!!
Ok the dinner was so good we could not fit in deserts, however, I will return just for a taste test so hang tight…. FYI, I hear that their fried ice cream is the best on earth we shall see stay tuned!!!!
Overall, the servers and service were top notch Mayra was on top of EVERYTHING, we can call that young lady the best server in Carson hands down period!! Thanks to Mayra and San Marcos for a great evening!!!!!!
I had business that was delayed next door so I stepped in for a quick lunch. Nice surprise.
I had two tacos one Carnitas and one Beria. The Carnitas came with a dip. It was simply amazing.
