We asked this bakery to make a gender reveal cake for us and they exceed our expectations! Not only was the cake beautiful and exactly what we asked for, but it was honestly one of the most delicious cakes I’ve eaten! They also worked with us on our tight deadline and got it to us within a week. We received so many compliments on the cake as well and many people asking where it was from. Would highly recommend McFarlan Bake Shop, thanks for helping make our gender reveal so special!

I really liked the chocolate chewy cookie, but the rest was just okay. The price was ok on most items compared to other bakeries so that was good. A couple staff were friendly but the one taking my order seemed like she really didn’t want to get my order. Overall it wasn’t a bad experience but I won’t make the long drive to go back.

This bakery is incredible—hands down the best donuts I’ve ever had. Everything I’ve tried has been delicious and super fresh.
The only small hiccup is the way orders are tallied and packed (not an actual “system,” just the method they use to add everything up). A few times, what I ordered didn’t quite match what ended up in the box.
That said, it’s a minor issue compared to how amazing the donuts are. I’ll definitely keep coming back—totally worth it.

If you love bakeries, this one should be at the top of your list! McFarlan had the BEST cinnamon rolls ever, and I’ve tried quite a few. The fact the shop is still open 94 years after its opening states everything you need to know.

Just amazing! We found McFarlan on a trip to the Asheville area and instantly knew we needed to have their donuts at our wedding. Some of the best apple fritters, cinnamon rolls, and traditional donuts we’ve ever had. The cake they made for our wedding was literally the best cake we’ve ever had! We were blown away. Their team was always friendly, professional, and so easy to work with. We will be back!

Today on Saturday, I went in to get a chocolate cake for my son’s birthday that is on Tuesday, December 2nd and was told that they would be closed on Monday and Tuesday. I understand that they were busy…but the young lady said that she didn’t have time to decorate the cake and all I wanted was red and green icing on the outside of the cake and a Poinsettia in the middle and I was told that she didn’t have time! I always buy my cakes and baked goods there…because the quality is really good. I hate to say that I have never had this experience before today, November 29th,2025! Customer service Sucks and if I told someone that I didn’t have time to honor their request…I would lose my job!

I’ve ordered doughnuts from McFarlans for several years for work functions and have always been happy with the service. However, when I called a few weeks ago to place an order, I was told they had a larger order and wouldn’t be able to take mine until a couple of days later. Unfortunately, that was too late for our meeting, and I had to make other arrangements. This was very disappointing for our office, especially given our long history of ordering from them. I hope they can improve their scheduling so loyal customers aren’t turned away in the future.
