delicious. I understand the hype now. i had a lovely time, i personally enjoyed the rice cakes with seafood and the veggie soup dumplings. first time i’ve ever experienced soup dumplings so there was a learning curve but to my luck there were directions on the table! my girl and her best friend had the chicken dumplings (im veggie), but they told me there was so much soup in them and they really enjoyed it! it was a fun time and great meal. also we had scallion pancakes and we were not completely sure what the sauce that was included was but it was an amazing sauce! if u know let me know 🙂 thanks so much to nan xiang and their staff!

We’d been seeing these dumplings all over social media and finally decided to see what the hype was about. For once… believe it.
The food wasn’t just tasty — it was genuinely impressive. We’re still a little shocked that a dumpling spot inside a mall could deliver flavors this bold and satisfying. Every bite was packed, perfectly cooked, and absolutely worth the anticipation.
The wait was around 25 minutes, but we strolled the mall and got the “your table is ready” text before we knew it — super seamless. The staff were attentive throughout. One dish did take a few reminders and arrived just as we were wrapping up, but we took it home and it was just as delicious the next day.
Safe to say, this one lives up to the hype. ✨ Definitely adding it to our must-try & return list

I had been to Nan Xiang soup dumplings in Flushing NY since they originally opened way back in the days. The traditional soup dumplings are still the way to go, service was great even though we booked online first so we didn’t have to wait for a long time. Over all it’s great to get your XLB fix when you needed, also it great to get try other dishes as well. The traditional beef noodle soup, taste wasn’t as authentic as I remembered. But besides that everything was great for a quick dinner.

I was thrilled to discover that Nan Xiang, a brand famous in China for its soup dumplings, had opened a location at Montgomery Mall. It is also a Michelin star restaurant. On our first visit, we tried several dishes, and everything was freshly made and delicious.
We’d read reviews warning of long lines, so we went for a Monday lunch. Even then, a line had formed before the 11 am opening. However, the restaurant is well-organized, and once the doors opened, service was smooth. A large kitchen staff was busy making dumplings, and waitstaff-occasionally assisted by robots-efficiently served the tables.
The menu is clear and prices are reasonable, with portion sizes similar to tapas. All the dishes we tried were terrific, but we especially loved their famous Nan Xiang soup dumplings, truffle & pork soup dumplings, and durian puffs.
It was a fantastic dining experience, and we look forward to returning to try more of the menu.

Food – Excellent. Soup dumplings were perfect. Filled with soup, with thin and tender wrappers. They might look similar to the ones from other places like Dumpling District and Ugly Dumpling but are in an entirely different league. Each dumpling flavor was very distinctive, which I liked. I wish I could have swapped the vegetable soup dumpling from the variety set out for the abalone, though – I know the abalone is more premium but I would have been willing to pay an upcharge for that. We instead ordered a full basket separately for the table (on top of our own personal variety sets) – no regrets there, they were delicious. Of the four baskets of dumplings we ordered (so, 24 dumplings total), we had two break, both from the center dumpling from two different baskets. So not perfect but pretty darn good.
I MUST call out the pan fried buns as being fantastic. This is the first time I’ve had them in the USA with actual liquid inside (like they’re supposed to) – most other places have them with a slightly moist interior, but these actually had soup. This dish has suddenly gone from a never-order menu item to a must-order menu item for me.
The chili oil they have is a bit oily (I prefer a crisp, with lots of flakes). I anticipated that though so I snuck in a jar from home. It was so good to drizzle that all over the buns.
Atmosphere – Very good. I was surprised because I have been to a Nanxiang Express before but this was something else entirely. It feels like the Din Tai Fung restaurants on the West Coast, and that is a good thing.
Pricing – Very competitive. The prices are in line with similar places, which is a bit surprising because the food is better and the atmosphere is more upscale. Food (various soup dumplings, buns, green beans) plus drinks, with tax and tip, came out to about $40/pp and I walked away very satisfied.
Lines – This is the downside. There is constantly a long line and my party needed to wait 45 mins to get seated. Join the waitlist asap!
Overall, I had a great experience here. Definitely one of my new go-to spots when I’m up in Bethesda. Easy strong recommend.

Despite how busy it was, the customer service was excellent. A special shoutout to the Korean server, he was incredibly kind, took the time to explain the menu in detail, and checked on us attentively throughout the meal.
The food came out quickly, portions were satisfying for the price, and overall it was an easy, pleasant place to stop for a casual meal while shopping. Would definitely come back.

The place had been open for just three months and we heard about it from a friend and decided to try it when passing by. It was 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon and was packed and the wait was 30 min. After roaming around the mall where the restaurant is for a little over half an hour we were seated, service was quick and friendly. We liked particularly enjoyed the soupy buns, we tried the six lucky samplers and signature ones. The truffle ones and the gourd and shrimp ones are unusual and both nice. The scallion pancake with beef slices are tasty and so is salty soy milk.
The interior is newly renovated and clean, we will sure come back.

One of the best parts is how convenient it is to queue online. Being able to join the waitlist ahead of time makes the whole experience smooth and stress-free, especially during busy hours.
Our server, Cynthia, was absolutely amazing. She was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. Her recommendations were spot-on, and she checked in just the right amount without ever feeling intrusive. Service like that really elevates a meal.
Now for the food — outstanding! The crab soup dumplings were incredible, bursting with rich, savory broth and delicate crab flavor. Each bite was perfectly balanced and comforting. The pan-fried pork buns were another highlight — crispy and golden on the outside, juicy and flavorful on the inside. And the scallion pancake was beautifully crisp, fragrant, and the perfect complement to the dumplings.

Loved everything that we had here. You will need to wait for sometime but can book your table online in advance. We had Chicken Soup Dumplings, Veg Spring Rolls and Soup noodles. Everything was perfect!! Highly recommend this place.

I visited this spot twice, starting with the exciting soft opening. The soup dumplings were outstanding—especially the truffle soup dumplings, which were rich, flavorful, and perfectly executed. The thin, delicate skins held the hot, savory broth beautifully, and every bite was a delight.
Unfortunately, my recent visit was a big letdown. The soup dumplings stuck stubbornly to the steamer bottom, and the skins broke the moment I tried to pick them up. Broth spilled everywhere, wasting most of the precious soup inside—defeating the whole point of xiao long bao!
For other dishes, the portions seemed smaller, the flavor wasn’t as vibrant, and the overall quality felt off. It’s as if the recipe for the wrappers changed or a different chef was in the kitchen.
If you’re craving reliable soup dumplings, I’d hold off until they get back to their soft-opening form. Two very different visits—one great, one disappointing.
