Food was excellent, but the service was absolutely horrendous. I ordered a steak and baked potato, and my waitress never checked on me. My water was empty the entire duration of my meal, and I ordered a beer that never came (thankfully it wasn’t rang up). Its a shame that the food was so good, but the service was so bad ill never be back. I wanted to ask for some butter and cheese but couldn’t because my waitress was doing anything else. 0/5 stars. TRAIN YOUR SERVERS AND WAITRESSES BETTER. Its an embarrassment.

I have now visited this establishment twice and enjoyed both times. The food has been good and the staff has been more than friendly to us. Love the look of the restaurant especially the wood carvings. Highly recommended.

Update 10/26/2025 – Still good, except that my Miners’ breakfast only had 2 eggs instead of the 3 it was supposed to have.

Disappointing steak dinner for the price.

We decided to stop at the Ranch House for a steak dinner. Service was okay, but the start was awkward. There were two entrances, and we were unsure of where to wait. Multiple employees walked by before someone finally acknowledged us and said they’d be with us shortly.

The salad was basic but fresh. The greens were crisp, though the croutons were stale. The rolls were warm but too dry and flaky. They came with a vegetable oil spread which did little to help.

The steaks were well seasoned but lacked a good sear and were slightly overcooked. The “thick-cut” ribeye was very thin. Thinner than my pinky finger. The greenbeans were bland, and parts of the mashed potatoes had a dry, leathery texture, like they’d been sitting out too long. Otherwise, the potatoes were fine.

Overall, the meal was overpriced for the quality of food and the level of service.

The customer service here is great, the steak is cook just right, and the veggies are delicious. What I didn’t like was the fries and the bread. The fries were soggy, as if it was left sitting in the oil too long and the bread was hard. I would expect a dinner roll to be soft and warm when it arrives on my plate. But, the service is great.

Ranch house is our go to sit down in Fernley. Quality food at good prices and friendly service. I look forward to their burger of the month whether it’s a burger or not. They always are open during the holidays and offer that hometown welcoming experience. Our favorite!

I ordered the special, and the fish — which honestly tasted like imitation — looked nothing like the glossy photos they plaster all over the restaurant and the slot machines. Total letdown. The hush puppies were fine, but the fried shrimp was overcooked and the fries were straight-up stale. And seriously… where’s the tartar sauce? You can’t serve dried fried food and expect lemons to fix it.

We’re from the Phoenix area, but we’re in town for a few months (maybe more) on a work contract. My wife is visiting here for the holidays and wanted to eat a steak late last night. My wife is not a fan of fast food. When she eats out she looks for places she can eat a meal that she wouldn’t be able to easily prepare at home, and she enjoys REAL food — not microwave dinners.

We looked at reviews for the Ranch House and saw great reviews on the food but not so great reviews on the staff. So we decided to try it. We actually found the staff to be pleasant and attentive, which was a nice surprise. The food, unfortunately, was the downfall.

The baked potato was the star of the meal. It was simply a potato in tinfoil, but it was the only thing worth eating. It had enough sour cream and butter. It could have done with a bit more bacon and cheese, but all the toppings were sufficient enough.

The steak… was it a steak? My wife looked at it several times wondering if it was actually steak meat. It was seasoned nicely, but the meat was… odd (and thin). It felt like eating a microwaved fake meat. My wife and I are very good at cooking steaks and do so often at home. We use cast iron to grill it and then place it in the oven to get a perfect medium rare. This was a huge miss. Not worth it.

We saw a picture of the carrot cake and thought, that looks good, let’s take a slice with us. Bad idea. It was a super thin slice of cake slopped into a carry-out container like a cafeteria scoop. We ended up giving the slice to our kids because it looked so unfresh and was smooshed weird. My son compared it to a McDonald’s meal — you see a cute picture, and then you get a meal that looks like someone body slammed it a few times. I would have been better off buying a Marie Callender’s pie from Walmart. It would have been cheaper to purchase an entire pie too!

Our entire meal was two sodas(I had A soda, and refilled it once, my wife only had water), one steak meal, a slice of cake, and 6 shrimp. Without tip it was $68-ish dollars… Seriously??!? We regularly eat out at nicer places and pay half the price. I hate leaving a negative review, because the staff really was kind. But for what we paid, the food just wasn’t worth the cost. If the meal had been priced closer to what it actually was, I probably wouldn’t feel so strongly about it. But at nearly $68 before tip, it just didn’t deliver the value you expect for that price point.

Update: Not at all what it used be! Disappointing .
Update: Breakfast is no longer served after 2:00. Kind of upsetting. Still the best option, in town.
Dinner was good. Service was great. Although the prime rib was tender and juicy, it lacked a lot of flavor. We will definitely be back to try more from the menu. -Regina
