A nice little bakery near the Old Port. It has a varied selection of baked goods. The scones were moist. I really liked the molasses cookies. They were nice and chewy not hard. Everything was not too sweet. I went there two days in a row and both times there was a line before they opened. They opened on time. A must if you’re in Portland.

Every item we tried at Standard Baking Co. was really good—fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. You can see why it’s so popular. However, parking was limited, there wasn’t much room inside to stand and order, there’s no dine-in seating, no restrooms, and on busy days you may end up standing outside in the biting cold while waiting. Even so, the quality of the baked goods makes it worth the stop if you’re prepared for a grab-and-go experience.

A Maine local friend highly recommended Standard Baking to us. He said their sourdough is out of this world and also reminded us to skip the scones (they were rather dry). Honestly, I truly think this bakery is truly living up to its hype!!
The line was very long on a weekend morning, but it moved fast. We only waited 20 minutes in line.
The Maine Miche Bread, which wad a whole wheat sourdough, was my favorite of this haul. Crunchy crust, soft and tangy interior. Only $8.50 for a big loaf. 10/10.
Blueberry Lemon Tart blew our mind. It was SO DELICIOUS that we almost went back to wait in line again. We should’ve tried more tarts and fruit pastries.
The croissant texture was perfect, and so as the pain au chocolate. Flaky and buttery. Morning bun was sweet, sticky and satisfying.
Just a note that many baked goods are made with almond flour, like the fruit tarts. For those who has nut allergy, remember to ask the staff.

My husband and I purchased a variety of baked goods at the Standard Baking Co. in downtown Portland, Maine. Everything we bought was fresh and delicious but both my husband and I particularly enjoyed their “Morning Bun with walnuts”! The shop was darling and the staff were very friendly. I strongly recommend a visit to this bakery! ❤️

Let me tell you the baked goods I got from this place were delicious! Me and my partner got a couple of things to try and none of them disappointed us at all. There was this mini personal sized pizza that we tried and it was delicious. Every was warm and tasted fresh. There was a line out the door when we showed up and we had to wait about 5-10 mins but it was worth a little wait. I would definitely come back to try out some more goodies!

You can scour this earth from the grands pâtissiers de Paris to the coffee houses of Vienna and back again, but I can assure you there is no better croissant than the prosciutto and Asiago you will get here. Choose another goodie from whatever they have on offer that day for the road to love later. They do no wrong.

Standard Baking does not disappoint. We stayed in Portland for two days and I stopped on our first day based on reading that they won a James Beard award and the fantastic reviews. We enjoyed an almond croissant, morning bun with walnuts and a cranberry scone. All were amazing. We were so satisfied that we stopped by on our second day to get more pastry and loaded up on baguettes and a five grain bread to bring home. Thanks for everything! We’ll definitely be back on our next trip to Portland.

Delish and worth the hype! Walked up on a Thursday at about 10:30 and there was already a decent line. Took about 20 minutes or so. By the time we left the line had doubled. We got the ham & cheese croissant, brownie, and blueberry lemon tart. Would get them all again.

Standard Baking Co. is a little gem in Portland
From the moment you enter, the smell of freshly baked bread already wins you. Everything looks incredible, but the financier was something else… crispy on the outside, soft and buttery on the inside, with that almond flavor that leaves you in shock
You can tell that they do everything with love and quality. The place has a calm vibe, perfect for a coffee and something sweet.
I would definitely come back just for that financier

Interesting French bakery, very good bread. They open at 7:39 in the morning and you will find a queue. The bread is comparable to the bread you find in France, crunchy and with a crust. Croissants are not my favorites in the city, there are better ones, but there are a variety of pastries to try. The service is average, a little cold, not very welcoming. A few more smiles wouldn’t hurt after having made the effort to buy their products, but I recommend it.
