Social Profile:

Founded as a six-stool oyster bar in 1938, Wintzell’s Oyster House celebrates over 80 years as a dining landmark. While oysters—fried, stewed and nude—headline the iconic brand, Wintzell’s menu comprises signature seafood dishes like bacon wrapped shrimp and redfish bienville; regional favorites, including award-winning seafood gumbo and homemade bread pudding; and two specialties native to Mobile: West Indies salad and fried crab claws. With locations throughout the Mobile area, the walls of all Wintzell’s restaurants are covered with thousands of the founder’s homespun sayings, delivering an atmosphere that’s lively, casual and unmistakably southern. After 80 years, we’re still shuck’n!

Informal chain eatery serving oysters, fried shrimp & other Gulf Coast seafood, plus happy hour.

Its impossible to give any restaurant 5 stars, but this place is really good. The service was great, and the food is really good. Oysters were perfect, along with the grilled fish tacos at happy hour. I haven’t been there in almost 20 years, and it was awesome back then. Kudos to the staff and management. You did a great job taking care of me. Definitely would recommend!

Shrimp & Grits were delicious. Two people at my table got the Fried Green Tomatoes and said they were really good. My favorite was the Bread Pudding–YUM!

We arrived and saw only one table occupied in the front by the windows. Yet, we were escorted all the way to the back in a separate room where there were other people. However, I think we should have been escorted to seats that were closer to the front. Especially when the place wasn’t crowded or given an explanation as to why we were being led to the outhouse . This leads to the fried pickles that I ordered. They arrived and did not look very appealing. They were this light shade that gave the appearance they needed a little more time in the fryer. However, they were not overly cooked and I was able to eat them. The person I was dining with commented about the large serving of seafood she received but after trying it she said it lacked in taste. Maybe, it’ll will be better the next time.

It’s a great seafood place. I didn’t use the bathroom, but it seemed clean. The service was pleasant, attentive, and swift. I got a seafood platter. The portions were good, but it just didn’t seem like the cook loved seafood. It was all not very hot, overcooked, and just a bit too firm. The breading was heavy and overwhelmed the food. If the crabs were supposed to be soft shell, avoid them because it was like chewing deep fried toenails. I guess that’s just my personal preference, so consider that. The atmosphere was great and we all enjoyed our time.

I grew up in a time when there was only one Wintzell’s Oyster House and it was certainly a special place to go, even when I lived 100 miles away. I had to give this location a try as I was staying at a hotel right down the road.

I went there late and was promptly seated. I ordered the Broiled J. O. Platter with a side salad. The fresh salad came out right away. It wasn’t long before the entree appeared. Oh my goodness! All of it was tasty and fit well within my calorie budget.

Once again, Wintzell’s made a positive impression on me!

We had the most wonderful experience all due to our waitress Miss Kristen. She is the embodiment of excellent service. She was so sweet, professional, more than accommodating, and it was an absolute pleasure to have meet her. We look forward to comming back and seeing you again! BTW God Wink is my new favorite saying, thank you for that!!! God Bless.

Unbelievable find! While traveling from Houston to Montgomery, we wanted really good seafood but didn’t want to venture too far off the highway. We asked ChatGPT for recommendations and saw a billboard and thought, why not? So glad we decided to give them a try. Fresh, flavorful, excellently prepared red snapper, and redfish bienville – both were AMAZING!! Our server, Chyann, was kind, helpful, very attentive and with a super sweet smile! Wish it wasn’t so far from home or we’d definitely be regulars!!

Was out here on Business and came across Wintzell’s. Food was great, especially the chargrilled oysters. They were so large and flavorful. The food is well prices and very good. I recommend the popcorn shrimp and fried okra!
