Reviews
We’ve visited multiple times, and their dosas and mysore bonda are consistently excellent. The pulao is perfectly balanced with flavor and spice. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu! The only thing I’m still hoping for is a perfect filter coffee, and the tea could definitely be improved. Overall, it’s a wonderful place that keeps us coming back.
However, we recently had a disappointing experience. On Thursday, my husband ordered a takeout for three biryanis: one Goat Gongura Biryani and two Chicken Gongura Biryanis. But what we received was one Chicken Dum Biryani and two Chicken Gongura Biryanis. Except for one item, the rest of the order was incorrect. We were still charged for the correct items on the receipt, so it was quite frustrating. We understand mistakes happen — that’s not the issue.
The real problem is the service.
My husband tried calling to make a small change right after placing the order — he called 15 times, but nobody answered. When he went down to the restaurant, the front-desk person said, “We don’t answer calls when it’s busy.” The restaurant had only two tables occupied, so that explanation didn’t make sense. When my husband mentioned he had called 15 times, the person even asked him to prove it, and when we showed it, he had no response.
We also tried calling for two more days to discuss the wrong order — again, no one ever picked up.
Even for dine-in, the service is not very pleasant. You have to order online, and no staff comes to take your order at the table. While placing the order itself, the system asks you to add a tip upfront, even before seeing how the service is — which doesn’t feel right. Food takes a long time to arrive, and the staff seem disinterested in customer requests.
Food quality deserves appreciation, but the customer service really needs improvement. If that’s fixed, this place could easily become one of the best.
Mostly I prefer sukka mutton and Malabar parota with chicken.
But quite observed the waiter all ways change here? Last time table was taken care by Sam he speak well handled. Hope little bit improvement on service I paying good amount for a dish.
Dosa and Chutney were good.
Veg Biryani was decent but I found it to be slightly expensive for everything being service – from ordering to getting water.
Biryani on website says $15, but will all the add-ons, it was up to $20. Who charges $1 for a slice of onion and quarter slice of lemon? Almost accounts for false advertising.
Portion size was good, but fewer protein/paneer chunks and mostly rice. Nothing beats Paradise Biryani.
The menu has lots of yummy options including vegan and gluten free.
Service is limited. The staff is friendly and will allow you to sit wherever you like. Only indoor seating is available. At every table there’s a QR code that’s used to see the menu as well as pay. Food is freshly prepared and came out quick.
Lots of free self parking.
The food is good, nothing else good about this place. There are better places in that area treating customers properly.
Who is even running this, manager if your seeing this go to the store don’t just sleep. These people can’t serve food on time and the way they treat the customers is trash. Waited an hour and still couldn’t get all the items when asked they just reheated in oven and served.
After canceling it and asking for refund they refused it, telling we’ll do a fresh preparation. Had to insist so long to get the check and they say they will refund with 2 days. Consider your money stolen its never going to come back
Last night we also ordered Andhra Chicken, Chicken Dum Biryani, Boneless Chicken Biryani, Paneer Tikka Masala, and Chole Bhature, and once again, every single dish was extremely flavorful and cooked perfectly. Their biryanis are especially amazing, aromatic, well-spiced, and generously portioned.
The only small disappointment is their policy of offering just one extra bowl of sambar per table, whether you are dining alone or with a group of ten. Since the food is so tasty (and the sambar is fantastic), it would be great if they could be a bit more flexible with refills.
Overall, Southern Spice continues to be one of my favorite go-to restaurants. The taste is consistently wonderful, the quality is great, and I always leave happy. Highly recommended!
Chai was the best. Can’t wait to come back again!
