Today my buddy Mike and I visited this establishment while on a lunch break from laying fiber cable.
Our wonderful waitress Tess was excellent .
The food was above anything mike and I have ever eaten before!!!
Mike had the pound of brisket and buddy rolls.
I had a primerib sandwich with auzu sauce with fries and slaw.
Thanks to the staff and their outstanding service and knowledge of the product at buddy boy fine barbecue. We are already planning another trip there.

It is said to try “the sampler” feeds 4 to 6 people with plenty of left overs. According to thee one and only Tess!!!

A BBQ Craving on a Country Drive

There’s a little stretch on Highway 7, on the way to Mayer, where I’d always catch a glimpse of a tiny BBQ joint off to the left. Nothing flashy—just a humble spot with a gravel parking lot and a few big trucks parked out front. For years, I told myself I’d stop. And finally, during the height of COVID, I did. I still remember that first order: a brisket sandwich and burnt ends. Simple, smoky, absolutely delicious. The kind of food that hits you with that perfect mix of comfort and surprise.

Fast-forward to a night in Waconia. I’m sitting at a bar, chatting with a guy named Neilly—hopefully I’m spelling that right. As it turns out, he’s the pitmaster behind that very same BBQ place I’d stopped at. Small world, right? One of those moments where you think, Of all the places and all the people…

This past weekend, driving through St. Bonifacius, that familiar craving struck again. Burnt ends. Brisket. Something smoky and satisfying. So I pulled into the newly rebuilt restaurant to see what they’d done with the place. The vibe is still that country-road surprise—a BBQ pit stop that feels like it sprouted out of nowhere—but now with a more polished space that still keeps its character.

I ordered a cocktail that tasted like something straight out of a spa—crisp, refreshing, and just boozy enough. Then came the food: my usual half-pound of brisket, a pile of burnt ends, cornbread, and the beans. But these weren’t your average BBQ beans—more like a hearty, flavorful chili that somehow tied the whole plate together.

Every bite hit exactly the way I remembered. That perfect blend of smoky, tender, and comforting. I left feeling genuinely satisfied—not just because I finally fed my craving, but because it felt like revisiting a part of the road that’s become its own little tradition.

Sometimes the best places really do appear out of nowhere. And sometimes, they’re well worth pulling over for.

Stopped in for a quick meal after having been told the food was excellent. I would have to agree. We ordered sandwiches, burnt ends potato salad and hush puppies. All were very tasty and we had plenty for leftovers. Our server, Karen, was spectacular. We will go back.

We had a great evening with family. I was shocked to find out that they sold Shiner beer. I live in Texas and that’s my favorite. We really enjoyed our visit to the Minnetrista area. I highly recommend buddy boy barbecue

Came during a light crowd.
Service staff was friendly and it seems like a nice family spot.
We had a couple of the craft cocktails, on pricier side.

The real let down was the food, that I wanted so much to like.
Baked Oysters- were almost non-existent, got a wad of garlic butter instead with each oyster.
Then we split 3 different meats:
Turkey – This was recommended to us by the staff, unfornately it was extremely dry. Appeared almost previously refrigerated.
Brisket – also incredibly dry and rubbery.
Beef Rib – The one thing I was hoping that would have saved the experience, sadly was also flawed. The char was so incredibly bitter it killed the redeeming qualities of the beef, which was not dry! Very fatty but the inner portion, far from the charred edges was finally the best meat of the night.

I really had high hopes for this spot. It’s far too pricey to try again. If you are looking for good Que, I would find something elsewhere.

This is hands down THE best BBQ place in the Twin cities. The brisket burnt ends are OUT of this world- tender and delicious. The smoked brisket is as good as Texas style BBQ.
The drink menu is great, too!
The vibes are immaculate &the service is top tier. If you dont stop here, you will regret it. I will be ordering the brisket weekly

Great restaurant! I only gave it 4 stars (deserves 4.5) because I wasn’t a big fan of their BBQ sauce or the meat’s flavor, but everything else was easily worth 5 stars. The portions are huge—three of us ordered three meats and three sides, and it turned into almost four full meals. The service was amazing, and the atmosphere felt like a rustic fine-dining experience. I will definitely be back!

This place is fitting for the location it is in. Two stars is kind for the rating- one for having take out and the second for the nice visuals.

The pork ribs is described as fall off the bone. I yanked and pulled at it with my teeth. It’s rubbery and tough. The Mac and cheese is fitting for the neighborhood again. You can tell who made it. It tastes like plain noodles. Plus, you can tell how good a bbq place is by their bbq. Their “buddy beans” is very greasy, right along with their take on “chili”. Both had a layer of grease/oil. Not great for the next day and the way it slides down your throat. Their brisket sandwich is VERY fatty. Granted brisket is suppose to have fat, but you’re (the restaurant) suppose to cut it off. The sweet potato fries is a baked sweet potato- also very good because it’s not dunked in grease. The burnt ends are good. The corn bread is good- probably boxed stuff, so no wonder it is good! The cornbread was the best out of everything. As for the bbq because it is why this place is a bbq place, it’s not hint, but gallons of vinegar sauce. Like has the owner/bbq-er never had bbq? Like what was their idea with making bbq sauce vinegar? Would like an answer to this, if possible. All in all, the owner should consider turning the place into a high end restaurant that serves steak, waygu, and seafood. I think it would work better than the bbq concept. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and you can tell this is where most of the brain power went to.

Tl;dr: pass. There are better bbq places in MN and this place is WAY overpriced. Unless you live here- go for it. You will think it’s amazing.

Top class bbq dining experience, especially for MN! The food was all delicious and reasonably priced.

Went for my dad’s birthday and got a variety of things including the Big Buddy sandwich, Mac n cheese and burnt ends potato salad for the table, spare ribs, brisket, cornbread and more. All great and would get again.

The three sauces provided were yummy but not spicy. Could’ve used a spicier option.

One of the best old fashioned cocktails we’ve had in a while, too.

Fun to watch the chefs at work in the open concept kitchen on the east side of the restaurant.

Can’t wait to go back.
