This was a great find in Jeff City. We were only staying overnight and found this place on Google close to our hotel. The outside is very unassuming in the Jefferson strip mall. Once you walk in it’s vibrant and colorful with beautiful tables and chairs.
On to the food… the chips are warm and the salsa is tasty. It came out within 30 seconds of sitting down. My wife and I ordered the Steak Fajitas for two which was around $25. I also ordered a single Carnita taco. The portions were very generous for the price and the food was flavorful. The service was friendly and quick. They have a well stocked bar with good prices. We did not get a drink this time. Our bill was only $32. Oh, they also have this fresh salsa bar for no additional charge I don’t know if I’ll have a need to be back in Jeff City but if I find myself here, I’ll definitely come back to El Jimador. O highly recommend this place.

Sorry this it long but I am kinda mad. I used to come to this restaurant all the time, and it was always good. However, after my first visit in years, I was extremely disappointed. The quality has gone downhill significantly.
The salsa bar was the first major issue. I took some sauce from it and found hair in it. Other items on the bar looked old and unappetizing as well. It was honestly disgusting and immediately set a bad tone for the meal.
To be fair, we had a party of 10, and I understand that English is not everyone’s first language. That said, when I ordered my food, I was under the impression that the server repeated it back correctly. When my meal arrived, it was wrong. I ordered vegetarian fajitas, but I specifically did not want carrots or other odd additions. The kitchen clearly did not follow the request.
I also tried multiple times to order deep-fried jalapeños. Instead, they brought me sliced jalapeños. In every Mexican restaurant I’ve been to—including this one years ago—this dish is typically three whole deep-fried jalapeños. When I questioned it, they told me I could get some from the salsa bar and refused to bring fresh ones, which made no sense.
The drink service was just as bad. They do not have shot glasses. I ordered a double shot of Jack Daniels and clearly stated I only wanted the liquor. They brought me a Jack and Coke. When I corrected them, they then served my shot in a mug.
The queso dip was especially embarrassing. Queso is basic: butter and flour to make a roux, add heat, then heavy cream and cheese in proper amounts. What they served tasted like someone melted a little cheese into milk, stirred it once, and called it a day. It was bland, thin, and nothing close to actual queso.
Overall, the food was less than mediocre. I have never had such a bland meal, and everyone else at the table over the age of nine agreed. This place used to be one of my top spots growing up, and now I honestly wonder what happened.
I will never go back. I’m genuinely upset that I had to pay for this experience, and in hindsight, we should have walked out. The food, service, and cleanliness were all unacceptable

Been coming here every so often over the years. Servers always change, we’ve had some we loved but never anyone rude or unpleasant and I think that speaks wonders. I haven’t tried much of their food in general because I fell in love with one thing and I get it every time. Chicken Fajita. You get a lot of food for what you order too. Me and my fiance (large gentleman) split a single chicken fajita and still have leftovers. I Think it’s around $13-14. They also have a toppings/salsa bar at no extra cost. And of course, complimentary chips and salsa. This last visit, I ordered a drink that comes in a pineapple! It was very fun and tropical-cute, I recommend if you are looking for an experience like that! You can get it with or without alcohol($12 with, cheaper without). I ordered it with and it was extremely light on the alcohol, but that might be that drink specifically. I don’t normally get drinks here so I don’t know how topped off they normally are. Wasn’t expecting to review so I only took pictures of the drink since it was special this time around. Hope you have a good time wherever you go!
Edit:7/11/23 Adding more photos! Changed Salsa bar to toppings/salsa bar. I changed the price to $10-20, but I really can’t emphasize enough their portion sizes are huge. Continued to have nice service. The fajita comes with a large plate of beans, rice, sour cream, pico de gallo, guacamole, and some tortillas. I always ask to have my rice and on a separate plate and my mom asks for her beans and rice separate (we’re picky eaters) and they do that, no problem. My fiance ordered his own this time, Burrito El Jimador Chicken. He loved it. Enjoy! Good luck!

The food is pretty good for the price. We get the grilled steak nachos. A big portion at a decent price. There are much better places for mexican spots in Jeff. This one isn’t bad though.

The Chiles Verde here is addictive!! It’s the best I have ever had. The pork is super tender and the sauce is tangy and flavorful. The prices are fair with large portions. Employees are friendly and orders come out hot and quick.

My English is not good yet, and the server also couldn’t do English well too, consequently the comunication wasn’t very well. But the food were all decent and in perfection for me. It fit my taste! Can’t believe that Fajita lunch special costed only 10 bucks…! It was second time for us visited this place and we were happy every time.

The food was pretty good. I got “a little of everything” plate since it included a tamale. It’s a lot of food! I was only able to eat just a quarter of the plate, and had to take the rest to go. Also I got the carnita tacos but forgot to ask for no cheese. That was good too.
Will have to go back to try different dishes again.
Their prices are also reasonable too considering the amount of food they provide.

0/10 would not recommend coming on the store on the blvd. they gave me bread n meat 3 different times in the different no condiments in their food. I even asked. Our waitress didn’t understand what we were saying when ordering food is wat caused it. When she brought the food out it was wrong she walked always mad and had a attitude with us the rest of the time we where there never gave us a refill or anything
