We were in the area on New Year’s Day and phoned ahead to see if they could accommodate two people for lunch and were told yes. Although we had driven past over the years, neither my wife nor I had ever been inside. What a perfect pub! It is a typical English pub, slightly old-fashioned but that’s the way we like it: no television, no pool table, no music blaring away. My wife had the soup of the day which was hot and delicious. She had liver for her main, which was very tasty. I had cod and chips: the fish flaked off and was super. Both portions were generous. The food took a bit of time to arrive but we were in no rush. I only wish we lived nearer but we will be back again.

We had roast beef for our Sunday dinner and it was beautiful. Everything on the roast was lovely. Roast potatoes were crispy, broccoli was nice and eldenti. The gravy was lovely and rich and the Yorkshire pudding was home made. The best roast dinner I have had out in a long time. If I had to say a minor it would be that I would have loved some roasted parsnips too but that’s personal. The service was great too. 10/10 x

After a Google search for somewhere nice to eat in Winchester, The Golden Lion came up. After picking up an army recruit, he was starving. The food was excellent, fancy enough to satisfy me, plentiful enough to satisfy both him and my daughter. Price was a little more than we’d usually pay but for a top quality, special meal, it was excellent. Also the staff were really friendly and attentive even though it was obvious we weren’t locals. Will definitely go back if in Winchester again.
Would highly recommend, please go, you won’t be disappointed.

A fair beer selection and serves food. The menu looks good, but I didn’t try.
Clean toilets.
Seems very quiet, we were the only customers twice this week at 6pm.
Not much of a view. And garden backs onto houses.
So in summary a solid pub just outside Winchester
You can enjoy a few minutes counting the golden lions in and around the pub.

We were passing through and stopped for lunch here. Wasn’t expecting such an amazing burger! It was very thick, juicy and full of flavour. The fries were nice and crunchy and well seasoned. Daughters sausages were delicious too. Cost around 30 quid to feed the both of us including a beer so not bad value for money.
Staff were fantastic, very friendly.

Met a friend here as halfway between where we live. Lovely large ish pub with a nice garden. Had the salmon and it was absolutely perfect. Lots of dill sauce and fab leeks which are not my first choice but done this way they were.

Went for a family birthday meal. We were a group of 13. We were asked to pre order and we were happy to do so. All of the food was delicious and served hot. The portions were very generous. The staff were friendly. We sat in the conservatory at the back which was really lovely. We found this place using trip advisor as never been before. Great find and we will go back!

Came for lunch on a week day, wasn’t expecting too much but given the car park was nearly full and the pub was quite busy I had better expectations and I wasn’t wrong, the team were friendly and helpful.
They have a good range of beers and drinks, the wine was of a good standard too. The show stopper was the food, I had venison, my wife the chicken, both dishes were delicious, frankly I could have eaten anything listed on the specials board, we left very happy!

Had the most delicious meal here last night! Visiting the Christmas market in Winchester with 7 friends, picked this restaurant due to great reviews on Tripadvisor ….. so glad we did! Our waitress was lovely, so efficient and patient with our many requests and the food was fantastic! Thank you! We will be back.

We came here for our staff Christmas doo. The restaurant had a good vibe with a warm cozy feel and nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent; so much of it and piping hot. The manager was very attentive and the staff were very friendly. I will definitely be back and would recommend this restaurant to anyone.
