Social Profile:

The first Macado’s restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees. Popular with the college crowd, the restaurant opened additional locations near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College. Locations were added at the rate of one or two per year, including those in neighboring West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. Macado’s just recently opened its newest location in Winchester, Virginia. The already-lengthy menu has been changed and expanded over the years, and several events have grown in popularity, such …

Food is great and a great value, gotta love massive $4 milkshakes and huge portions on everything else. Onion rings, house salad, flatbread, bang bang bacon burger quesadilla, and massive cinnamon roll dessert were all fantastic. Service just agonizingly off and slow. Brought the wrong milkshake and salad, father-in-law’s entree took forever, didn’t clear any dishes the entire meal, didn’t really come back and check on us or refill waters.

Food was delicious. The service was great. Our waiter did a great job. The decor was so unique and fun. The only negative I would say is that the place is showing its age. We looked up and the wall paper was falling off the walls. The bathrooms were clean but very worn out.

Overall, I would visit again but the place definitely needs a face lift.

Sandwiches are their specialty. I enjoy the decor and vibe of this place. It has a tavern feel. They have drinks on the menu, but they can make what you want. I did takeout and it was ready quickly. The staff was nice and helpful. Price is fair for the quality of food.

The food was absolutely amazing! The only thing that weirded me out was that the silverware was wet from the dishwasher. Lots of food, atmosphere was great, the only other thing is it’s kinda hidden behind other stores. It took us a while to get out food, but the wait is absolutely worth it. It was my first time here, would go back again

This place is fantastic. Serving all sorts of unique sandwiches, burgers and appetizers, this is not my first visit. The food is phenomenal, no matter what you get, with excellent service and top notch, random decor that gives this place charm and authenticity. It is sich a great place – how this building is situated, you have to park behind the building and walk down. It is a VERY tight parking lot so I do not recommend bringing big vehicles.

All in all, a great place to grab a quick bite, or stay and chat for awhile.

Our waitress was friendly and welcoming! She even offered a local ice cream shop that I enjoyed. You have to try the Wild Bill burger! Was the best burger I’ve had in a long time!

Had a wonderful stress free lunch with friends at Macado’s. Everyone’s food was delicious and fresh, service was timely with attentive wait staff, and the decor is weird, cool, strange and humorous. One can enter from the parking lot at the bottom and go up the outside stairs, or park behind the restaurant up the hill, and enter with no stairs. This route is accessible. Portions were plentiful, with food to take home for later. The bar is usually full at night, but not many patrons were present for this weekday lunch. Lunch specials were a good value, and the entire menu is enormous, even with a make your own section, as if you couldn’t find what you wanted! Overall a pleasant lunch experience! Pics are of the back entrance on the hill, and half Betty Boop sandwich I took home.

Had a great lunch here today. It seemed as if there were not many patrons, but everyone was seated throughout the large dining area and bar. Sandwiches were great, wait staff were busy but very attentive. As usual interesting decor. Been in Roanoke for years and one of my reasonable sandwich spots. Fun at night too.

Atmosphere is nice food is alright. Pretty much what you would expect for dinner food. Prices reasonable enough. Service is often an issue not that they’re rude but just understaffed. Just sat here tonight for 15 minutes without a waiter or waitress noticing us so we left.

I really enjoyed the food here. I got a Macado sandwich. Very tasty. Another in my party got a really good turkey sandwich and they were very happy also.

I have eaten here several times over many years. The service was very good as well.
