First tyme there. Early dinner. 12oz Primerib was out of this world. Thick, less fat, medium rare, Perfecto,, French onion soup delicious but served in a tiny cup, veggies fresh not canned, baked potato decent size, Beef bone entree, tender beef, not crowded or loud, dim lighting, plenty of parking, clean bathroom.

I’ve loved in National City for 5 years and somehow missed this gem! The food was amazing, atmosphere intimate but inviting, and the service was spectacular. Big shout out to our excellent server Roxanne, she was friendly and very attentive! Will be back with friends very soon.

Would like to take the time to say an honest review, 1. And foremost if you love and enjoy quality food. This is the place.
2. Prompt service, once seaterd I needed nothing; warm bread and butter (delicious) started and sides out shortly after!
3. Unlike a chain restaurant no offense; I was asked upon serving, if my steak was to my liking (huge) and yes it was. Thank you la maze for now multiple experiences and dishes.

My husband and I celebrated Valentine’s evening at this restaurant and absolutely enjoyed all of it! The wait was worth the experience. We felt super comfortable with the service. The food was great and the romantic music just uplifted the adventure. Thank you for the great service. We will be back for sure 🙂

Our favorites are the prime rib, pork chops, fried calamari and creamy chicken soup! Excellent food in general. They are famous for their prime rib and offer a special anniversary priced prime rib dinner every year as a “Thank you” to their customers. They have a very friendly wait staff. This is a historic restaurant that was frequented by the Hollywood elite in the 40s and 50s, and still draws crowd at dinner time due to their high quality entrees. For us, it is well worth making the 12 mile special trip. Update: Stopped by for prime rib, creamy chicken soup, and garlic mashed potatoes. Excellent as usual, with fast friendly service! Update: Tried their sirloin steaks, excellent! Update: Prices have increased again, but quality remains excellent. Got the cheesecake dessert. It was very tasty, but at $7.95 it wasn’t a good value. Update: Prices have increased yet again. This is becoming a pricey restaurant, however the quality remains excellent. Update: Another price increase. Excellent prime rib and sirloin steak. Update: Our first disappointing experience. Decided to try the fish and chips. For $25.95, we expected way better. Sadly the fish was prepared similar to corn dogs, but with 75% breading. Just a pinky finger sized piece of fish in each. Minus one star. On the other side of the spectrum, the boneless pork chops were excellent as usual. Update: Another price increase. Excellent prime rib and sirloin steak. Update: Got the Pork Chops and Prime Rib entrees. Both were excellent. Update: Another price increase. Got the Pork Chops entrees, and the Clam Chowder. Everything was excellent as usual! Update: New owners and much higher prices. The steaks and prime rib are extremely expensive now. Got the Cajun Chicken and Alaskan Cod entrees. They were very good, but a bit overpriced. Update: Got a Prime Rib Dip Sandwich and a slicebof Cheesecake. Both were excellent. The prices have increased yet again, and sadly the food is no longer a good value.

Was very disappointed in food. Prime rib (petit cut) was cold, dry, and stringy. Seemed to be an old dried out piece of beef. Baked potato was cold, butter didn’t melt. Service was good. It definitely wasn’t the pre-pandemic Cafe La Maze I remembered!!!! For the amount of $$$$ spent ( wife and I) definitely won’t be going back!!!

came here this past sunday night on a whim excited to support a local restaurant as me and my partner are both part of the industry, walking in the atmosphere was amazing, beautiful interior with lovely live music & we were so excited to try it out.

upon seating we notice there’s only one server & one bartender, both being stretched pretty thin but doing their best to provide good service. there are a few smaller tables, full bar & one big party celebrating a birthday. the server was pretty impressionable, we get our orders in & drinks come pretty promptly but food took about an hour. (salads came within 20 mins but full course hit an hour after being sat) not a huge deal since we enjoyed the atmosphere, but i can’t help but notice the lack of staffing. one person in the kitchen, 2 on the floor attending to every step of service including bussing. i see someone walking around with a clip board & a la maze hat, assuming it’s a manager and i see them just touching flowers on the wall for some reason? and then disappearing for quite a while until i see them sit at a table with guests i assume they knew visiting them at work.

I was baffled to see the floor struggling and seeing no manager be hands on helping run food, make drinks, or even help clear a table or touch tables to make sure service was going smoothly. this was all noticed within the hour and a half we sat, to the normal eye these may be things that are easy to ignore, but as someone who has experience in this industry i couldn’t help but notice where everything fell short as far as staffing & service. i can understand low labor on presumably dead nights, but to see a manager blatantly ignoring the floor and refusing to assist staff is a big concern.

as far as the food, it was good! not great or mind blowing, but good. if it wasn’t for the staff and being presented with good service i probably wouldn’t have justified paying what i did.

I honestly hope there’s more structure in the future, more staffing and more training on proper service for steakhouse quality dining because this place has SO much potential.

not sure if i would be back to dine, but seeing such a beautiful place be a bit neglected made me want to clock in myself to clean things up a bit. personally, if i were the manager i’d work on having different priorities & helping create a more functional atmosphere for not only staff but for patrons.

only reason i gave 3 stars is because i could tell staff was trying their best, otherwise it would be closer to 1 star. would love to come back and see this place thrive, but i would probably skip it for now.
