We visited on a Saturday night there were tables available. We ordered off the a la carte menu the food was great all very fresh and tasty. The staff were excellent and the manager was very visible and helped the staff and also had time for the guests in enhancing the overall quality of service.

A hidden Japanese art!

My wife and I popped into this little hidden gem in Cambridge called Sushimania. Upon arrival. You are stunned by the beautiful design and decor.
The waitress showed us to our table. It had a QR code which we used to order our meal.
We decided to order from the a la carte menu which, during lunch and dinner if eating in, it is half price. The app does not show the half price, only the full price and the waitress did signal us this when we were placing our order and then told us the total after the meal.

We ordered a chicken and duck sushi rolls as well as beef soba noodles and seafood ramen as well as a side of tempura prawns. I am delighted to say, the food was incredible. The rice bowls were carefully crafted and had an abundance of flavour, very fresh and filling. The ramen was carefully presented and abundant in flavour. The beef in the soba noodles melted in your mouth and the tempura prawns were delicate and yet so tasteful!

For the total including drinks at around £40, it was morethan enough for the both of us. We even were able to take some home with us with a £1 charge for the box.

Overall the food was incredible. The menu ordering can be a little confusing however the staff are on hand to help. They also have a variety of authentic Japanese drinks including warm and cold sake and tea.

Will definetly return again and next time, we will try the buffet. Amazing job guys!

This place has always had middling reviews, yet we were regulars at one point and couldn’t fault it. First time back in a few years last week and wow, has it gone downhill. Miso soup basically water, gunkan sushi served on its side with the roe spilling across the plate. Soggy tempura, wasabi that’s clearly dyed horseradish, and congealed rice. Edemame burnt to a dark brown and caked in salt. Chicken lollipops dry and stringy. The worst bit however is the entire “half price all day every day” premise; in the past, there was a paper menu on each table with photographs of each dish, showing the full prices – with the discount applied at the end, which at least maintained the illusion of a good deal. Now, you’re handed a QR code and forced to order on your phone; there’s no indication that the discount has already been applied to the prices shown. Anyone therefore imagining a further discount will be sorely disappointed… yet given the quality of the food, the premise that it’s worth twice the marked price is absurd. The very fact that the restaurant is able to offer ‘50% off’ all day, every day and still remain profitable enough to keep the lights on is proof that the ingredients used are barely worth the discounted price, let alone what we’re led to believe is the full price. The final blow came as we asked to take 6 pieces of roll home and were told by our server that we’d have to pay full price for these, as “the discount only applies within the restaurant” (thankfully she was easily persuaded to change her mind on this). I understand the need to charge for people abusing the bottomless menu option, but policing takeout on the à la carte menu seems absurd.

Extremely disappointed in this Japanese restaurant, went in everything seemed fine, went to bathroom upstairs to find majority of staff sat on phones kitchen staff sat/squatted in the floor. Looked past that and continued to order the buffet/ all you can eat which is £26.80 each no drinks included. Ordered on the app and food arrived within 5 minutes. 6 plates of “hot” food and 6 portions of sushi.

The sushi wasn’t great very dry and had clearly just been sat out. The hot food was warm at best and very bland and the pork was still pink ( apart from yakatori chicken which was actually quite nice) noticed a lot of flies around the building and restaurant so we decided not to order another round and asked for the bill.

The bill came with the service charge and as I wasn’t happy with the quality of food I asked to have the service charge off. The staff then said no I can’t take it off or else he will be taking the all you can eat offer off and I will have to pay full price. Which I thought was ridiculous then spent 5 minutes adding up the items off the menu myself and it coming to over £60 I decided fine I will just leave it and pay the offer. We paid and I just quickly asked the staff member where it stated that for the offer to comply the service charge is mandatory and he said it’s not written down and he had, had a lot of other complaints similar and his manager is in charge and asked would I like to speak with him.

Manger was incredibly rude, not helpful and when I asked him if it is stated anywhere he said if I wanted to follow the rules so bad he would charge me for the excess food waste which would be £16 extra. My boyfriend then explains the food wasn’t great however since we had already paid we wasn’t trying to get the money off only to let them know it should be written down or stated. as having the service charge be mandatory without notice is incredibly irresponsible, which led to a longer argument which, we then decided to leave as the manager was not taking any responsibility and was only getting more and more agitated towards the both of us.

The food was very delicious, however, the service was very bad. The QR code we scanned to order from the half price menu was stuck so one member of staff asked us to write down the codes of the food we wanted (as these were shown on the menu)on a piece of paper. We wrote everything very clearly and one of the dishes we ordered, we wanted it times 2 which we wrote as x2 on the piece of paper. This second dish never arrived and I queried this with one of the waitresses who told me would check and let us know. After about 5 mins she returned saying that it’s on its way. About 25 mins later, we still didn’t have that dish and I asked again to which another member of staff asked me to clarify which dish we were expecting so I even pointed at the dish that was already on the table. He said he understood. After about 15 more minutes, another waiter comes and brings a different dish to the one we had explained 3 times by that point what we wanted. Again I said this is not the one, again pointing out at the correct dish already on our table. He left without apologizing or even looked at us in the eye. After about 10 more mins, the right dish was served. No apology, no nothing. When the last waiter came so we could pay the bill, there was a service table charge of almost £7 which I found very audacious of them to even add, what service was that for us to leave even a cent of a tip? We paid the bill and I asked if that service charge was mandatory as I was not happy at all with the service we had and the Waiter told me that it was optional so I told him because we can’t be bothered to ask it back, we know now if we were to visit again, we would never leave a tip as we were not happy with the service. I asked him to pass the feedback to his colleagues, but also thought to write a review as it was not at all what we expected or needed yesterday. Completely different experience than the sushimania we visited some months ago in Nottingham where the staff were brilliant. Don’t think we will ever visit the one in Cambridge as it may as well be a self service place.

We tried their bottomless menu and it was okay for me and my wife. The manager that time, I think he’s Asian, was very accommodating to us. Ambience is fine as well.

My husband and I come here ALL the time with our friends when we’re in Cambridge. As a person who can’t eat raw fish they have so many alternatives that taste absolutely delicious. My husband, who lives raw fish, says that again the food is “soooooo yummy”. And the half price menu, fantastic. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who likes Japanese food.

Dismissive customer service. There were only a few waiters on a busy Saturday. You have to scan a QR code and order your own food, it comes at different times and they don’t come to check everything is okay. Couldn’t get anyone’s attention to get the bill and then eventually went and stood near the counter until I got noticed. They also add a service charge which I would recommend you ask them to remove if your service was as lacking as ours was.

It was okay. Not a bad price £18.80 for all you can eat, we felt some of the food lacked flavour and was alittle bland, plenty to choose from. The service was akittle slow and from 2 different orders we had items missing which we had to ask for again. They soon gave us the missing items and said sorry, we had to ask for the bill 2 times as the first person didn’t bother getting it. Overall we just felt it could of been better, we would go again but maybe skip the sushi covered in rice as its mainly just rice with hardly any filling, the bits like tempora and skewers where worth getting though !
