⭐️ Unexpected Florida Gem Fresh Seafood & Southern Vibes at Crooked Bass Grill
While driving north toward Orlando, we randomly passed through the Babson Park area and spotted The Crooked Bass Grill and Tavern right off the small roadside curve. It looked inviting enough for a U-turn — so we turned around, pulled into the free parking lot (first come, first served), and headed inside to check it out.
As soon as we walked through the wooden door, we waited around 10 minutes for the hostess to seat us, then got a cozy booth. The vibe inside is simple, homey, and full of small local touches that give the place character. Our server was friendly and quick to bring menus, and everything on the seafood section looked great.
We ordered the grilled shrimp skewers and the grilled salmon plate, which came with fries and coleslaw. The food was honestly excellent — the shrimp were juicy with a perfect char, the salmon had that smoky grill flavor, and the fries came out crispy and hot. Even the coleslaw was fresh and crunchy, not watery like many places serve.
What surprised me most was how good the quality was for such a quiet, out-of-the-way stop. The whole experience felt like discovering a hidden local spot you’d never find unless you happened to drive right by it. The area around the restaurant adds to the charm — peaceful, green, and very “Old Florida.”
Overall, a great accidental find with delicious seafood and friendly service. Definitely worth stopping if you’re anywhere near Babson Park.

We’ve been here before with local friends and we’ve always enjoyed ourselves. BUT this was the best time we’ve had. Jeanette and I go out to eat alote while we’re in Frostproof Florida. This time we said let’s get something different on the menu. Our waitress was absolutely so nice and patient as we asked questions ❓ we ordered crab legs and jumbo shrimp and shrimp on a stick . Absolutely DELICIOUS . We’ll be back again and again. Thank you again for another wonderful evening at the crooked Bass restaurant

Service was very very good.only received appetizer,after we finished dinner. food was good as well.the catfish was light and cooked perfect.the hush puppy’s small 2 but delicious,coleslaw not to greasy not to tasty. Over all the place was very nice and many things to view on the wall.

We have been hearing about this place for a few years and TODAY was our first visit! Had a prime rib sandwich, Crooked lake Hamburger- both with sweet potato fries..and a Fried grouper basket! ALL were delicious!!! The coleslaw was amazing…fries were crispy..hush puppies were crispy outside and tasty on the inside! We even treated ourselves to a dozen steamed oysters..they were spot on! Our service was awesome too!! Bathrooms were clean and restaurant was nice and welcoming! Won’t be the last time we visit!!

Met my Uncle here for dinner, as it was about halfway between Boynton & Brooksville. Picked it using only info on line & what a pick! This place has great food, great service, a fun family atmosphere & a Tiki happy hour for all with live music. I will definitely return!

If you’re a fan of hidden gems, this seafood spot on SR-17 Scenic Highway is an absolute must-visit! I recently had the salmon with their incredible cranberry sauce, and let me tell you—it was out of this world! The sauce had just the right amount of kick, complementing the perfectly cooked salmon in a way I never imagined. Honestly, I’ll be coming back just for that dish.
The sides were equally impressive—super fresh and healthy, with spinach, broccoli, and okra that really stood out. They all tasted farm-fresh and were the perfect complement to the main course.
I also want to shout out the amazing waitress who went above and beyond by accommodating my request to park my motorcycle right at the entrance, even though there wasn’t an official parking spot up front. That kind of service made the experience all the more memorable.

Definitely try the amazing clam chowder. Everything we ordered was great. We tried crab cakes, which were super fresh and perfectly crispy… a little more fresh than my taste, but my son loved them. 2 come in an order. My son also had a build your own platter, and I ordered a Cuban sandwich…. very good Cuban sandwich, by the way. I definitely recommend this place

This place is GOOD. Came here for the first time tonight, and it’s a welcoming, fun, happy, and cozy environment. Would be perfect for parties. They have an area to play pool, a back outside area with tons of tvs, tables, and a bar. They had live music playing tonight (William Stevenson Music), and they did great! The people that work here are friendly as well as the ones that are visiting here. The crab legs!! 10/10 I can not wait to come back to try a different flavor. They have a few you can choose from. Was not disappointed with the meat I pulled out of them bad boys. The clam chowder was really good, too. Now my new favorite place to eat when we come down to visit. Everyone else enjoyed their food as well. Our waitress (I failed to remember her name, and I am so sorry). I do know she is from Buffalo, though! She was great! Mother’s Day 2025, reservations were made for 4p and we arrived 20 minutes early – the booth for our party of 3 was ready and available. Lots of folks occupied the large numbers of tables and booths inside and there’s even bar seating if that’s more your style. And there’s a new tiki hut bar area outside too! The restaurant’s atmosphere, both as you enter the restaurant and once inside is totally cute and cool, the restaurant is super clean. Our server was welcoming and very attentive the entire time we were there. We ordered appetizers – the fish dip and the fried mushrooms which were both fresh and delicious! Iced tea was sweet and cold – just the way we love it! Our grandson ordered the filet which was cooked perfectly (medium rare), the accompanying sides of fries and hush puppies were hot and good he said. The Caesar salad that came with his dinner was also fresh and plentiful! Hubby ordered the fried catfish platter which he loved, I got the blackened shrimp platter. Both platters included salads and two sides (we chose sweet potatoes fries and hubby had the fried okra which he loved, I got onion rings which were just “okay”, the batter on the rings was thick and chunky if you like yours cooked that way). Our drink glasses were never empty, all of our food was fresh, hot and delicious, and the overall atmosphere was fun and welcoming – the prices were perfect for all the food and drinks we were served and we brought home leftovers for lunch tomorrow. We passed on dessert, we were simply full. To top this all off, the very gracious owner came by our table to check on things. She genuinely cared, which is rare these days. This is not fast food – this is a sit down, make yourself comfortable dining experience in a quaint, old Florida style restaurant environment. Crooked Bass serves delicious steaks, seafood of both fresh and salt water varieties, wings, sandwiches lid so much more – they have it all, truly there’s something for everyone! If you’ve not been, do yourself a favor and visit Crooked Bass in Babson Park – GPS will take you right to their large parking lot. Enjoy!
