This is our first time at MCCB and they were busy on a Saturday afternoon. We had a party of 7 and the front desk told me there is a $20 deposit for the table. If we go somewhere else, we would lose the deposit. Which was fine since we planned on eating there anyway.

We were seated once the entire party arrived. They will not seat you until then. Service was nice. Water refilled quickly. Food arrived hot and it was delicious. We ordered the whole fish, pork belly, string beans and everything was yummy. The prices for the steamed fish was a bit high for $30 but I guess that’s the standard price nowadays. Fun atmosphere with funny fake graffiti because the spelling in both Chinese AND English was way off which was funny. Will try again since the food was pretty good.

My wife and I had Saturday lunch at MCCB and we were honestly so glad we came a little early. We were lucky to get seated right away because if we had arrived 30 minutes later, we definitely would’ve had to wait because the place filled up fast. That alone says a lot about how popular it is!

The staff were very friendly, attentive and really knew how to take care of their customers. They checked on us at the right time without being intrusive and made the whole dining experience smooth and enjoyable.

For food, everything was impressive. We started with the beef shu mai as an appetizer and it was fantastic. The filling was juicy, well-seasoned and packed with flavor. It had a real kick to it properly spicy, not just a hint which we absolutely loved. You can tell it’s freshly made and not rushed.

The traditional fried rice was lit. It had that perfect wok hei (that smoky, slightly charred flavor from high-heat cooking), with well-balanced seasoning and generous ingredients mixed throughout. Every bite was flavorful and satisfying and not greasy, just done right.

Our main dish was the honey black pepper flank steak and it did not disappoint. The steak was tender and cooked perfectly, coated in a rich sauce that balanced sweetness from the honey and bold heat from the black pepper. The flavors were layered and bold without overpowering the meat itself. Definitely a standout dish.

We also ordered the traditional chow mein to go. It was okay decent and satisfying but compared to everything else we had, it was just average.

Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely come back again to try more dishes. Highly recommend coming a bit earlier during peak hours!

This was a random find during our trip to China Town in Chicago. Was initially planning to have food at a nearby restaurant but saw the amount of people going in so decided to try it out. Literally no regret. The food was exceptionally good. Probably the best Chinese food I’ve had in Chicago. We had the Beef Honey Pepper and the Chicken Chilli Dry (might not have the right names for the dishes). It’s definitely a place I’d recommend visiting for food. Also the vibe there is great.

Tucked away in Chicago’s Chinatown is a restaurant you must try. Recommended by friends, MCCB is a Michelin-star Chinese restaurant that we decided was our BEST meal in Chicago (and that is saying something).

We seriously debated going two nights in a row – it was that good. They have maybe ten tables total in this little restaurant within a Chinatown strip mall. You have to put your name in, and hold your spot with $10 (that is then applied to your meal).

Is it all worth it, you ask? Yes and more.

The dishes came out hot, flavorful, and well worth the hoopla. Additionally, we were stunned at the affordable cost.

We ordered the garlic green beans, the cheng du style dumplings with sweet sauce, the dry chili chicken, chow mein.

We waited about 40 minutes because it was highly rated. Our hot and sour soup was delivered to the wrong table. We finally got it after our main course was served. Don’t order the hot and sour soup. Tasted like a sauce not a soup. I added half of my rice to dilute it so I could eat it. Not enough tofu or mushrooms. Rate 3/10. Green beans with pork ordered spices were excellent. American beef with veggies also excellent. Free rice with dishes. Very small tables only a foot from next table were fine but not for a big person. Service was friendly and fast if flawed. No paper menus. Be ready to scan with app. Very long menu.

fast attentive service!! first time visiting and i will be back next time i visit chicago! the seating is very close to each other but food wise the hong shao rou was so juicy and flavorful i can see why this restaurant has the top ratings and has so many awards. mapo tofu, i asked for extra spice, and it felt glassy, soft, and fragile, tasted great. the last dish special moo shu in vinegar sauce had bamboo shoots, sliced pork, zucchini, wood ear mushroom, egg, the combination was amazing

Just had the best experience at MCCB Chicago. I’m Chicago visiting family for the holidays. We decided to try out MCCB for dinner. We were seated right away. We ordered and our food came out pretty shortly afterwards. Everything was a 9/10 out of 10.

Here’s what we ordered:
Pepper chicken
Pepper steak
General Tsos Chicken
White rice
Shrimp fried rice
Veggie Spring rolls

I highly recommend this place!

Outrageously delicious!! An overwhelming menu selection of traditional Chinese cuisine. The green bean vegetable side was highly flavorful and made with a large amount of garlic and oil. The honey pepper beef rib was also a great choice although the meat quality was low. The service was fast and the portions are large.

My recent visit to MCCB Chicago was a bit of a mixed bag. While the food had potential, the service experience left a lot to be desired.

Upon arrival, I was told by the hostess that I couldn’t be seated until my entire party was present. That is standard policy at some places, but the way it was handled felt rigid and unwelcoming. I mentioned my group was just five minutes away, but was still asked to wait outside. As I stood there, I watched three separate groups walk in and get seated, which was frustrating and confusing. Eventually, the hostess came back out and said I could put my name down, but now there was a 45-minute wait and a $20 deposit required. It wasn’t until later that it was clarified the deposit would go toward the bill, something that should’ve been made clear upfront.

Once seated, the service was fine, but the food was inconsistent. We ordered the chili chicken, eggplant, mapo tofu, lemon shrimp, chili dumplings, and string beans. Out of the seven dishes, five were noticeably over-salted, which overpowered the flavors and made it hard to enjoy the meal fully. It’s a shame because the ingredients and presentation suggested higher expectations.

Overall, MCCB has potential, but the uneven service and heavy-handed salt made the experience fall short. I might give it another try in the future, but disappointed since this place has had Michelin awards from previous years.
