Located in West Asheville, this iconic restaurant has provided comfort food to locals for more than 75 years. Today, new owner, Chef Steven Goff, takes those same comfort food elements and combines them with a reimagined flavor combinations plus a new dive bar serving fabulous cocktails and beer. We have outdoor seating, indoor seating and bar seating.
Homestyle American fare including all-day breakfast dished up in an old-fashioned environment.

It is a great little place for a late night meal, but WHEW!!! My burger and fries were terribly salty! I told the bartender/server and she said yes we use a lot of salt…. Too much for me! She did offer to replace my food. I had already eaten most of the burger by then and didn’t want to have any more fries. Maybe I should’ve said, “Can I get a free meal next time?” So, can I?
I would like to try again and give a better review of the food. It seemed so promising.
Service a 3, it was just average. Very nice staff though (2), but they were busy.
Atmosphere a 4, it’s a cute and eccentric place.
I just want to suggest to let customers know some things may be a bit salty and offer a lightly or no salt option.

Always excellent food and friendly service. We love the Tuesday burger special. Arguably the BEST SMASH BURGERS IN TOWN! We got an AUX burger and crinkle fries for $10 and they had $3 PBR tall boys. They serve up fun takes on southern comfort food in a cozy, eccentric space. Plenty of patio seating.

I’ve had some of the best dishes of my life here. I can’t eat gnocchi anymore thanks to Cheff Goff because nothing compares to his dish. The food is incredible but the staff are what make this place truly special. It feels like walking into a kitchen full of friends with warm greetings and savory smells. Even better, there’s a bit of a dive bar vibe without being a dive bar in that they have all kinds of tempting drink specials. Grab yourself a Carolina dog and a shift drink and enjoy it outside on a sunny day.

Absolutely out of this world. The outside is unassuming but inside is eclectic and the vibes are great. The food was phenomenal and our party of 4 tried a wide variety of menu items from cocktails, appetizers, sandwiches, soups…. All so good I couldn’t decide my favorite. (If you love garlic, get the Cali Fries!) Portion sizes were perfect, our server was great. New owners apparently bought it 2 years ago and only stepped up the game. It will most definitely become a regular spot in the rotation!

What a delicious lunch at this unique diner! This place is not short on character and the food and service matches the vibe.
My wife and I were greeted by the friendly staff and sat in the main dining area. We took a few minutes to look over the menu as our server let us know about the breakfast items that were served all day as well as the specials they were running. We ordered a Brisket Po Boy and the Aux Burger with a side or crinkle fries, sesame noodles, and a side salad. EVERYTHING was delicious! Both the Po Boy and Burger were simple but very well executed. The server told us the burger meat was sourced from a local farm in Boone so that was a plus! The crinkle fries were well seasoned, the sesame noodles were packed with flavor, and the salad was light and refreshing. After lunch we asked the server if there were any dessert options. He said technically no but they have a homemade banana bread they like to cook French toast style and top with local chocolate. We said bring it on and we were not disappointed! It was a perfectly just-sweet-enough end to a delicious meal.

Tastee Diner is definitely a must visit for brunch or lunch! We had the Chicken & Pancake and the Fried Chicken & Grits Bowl with Sausage Gravy. Both were incredibly tasty! They gave the option of spicy or non-spicy chicken. I chose spicy and loved it. The pancake was so huge that I could not finish it, but that is okay because I had plenty of chicken to eat together with the savory herb maple butter on the pancake. We will surely visit again!

Great place to eat outside or at the bar inside. Food was fantastic! Seasoning in the fries make the big difference. Brisket with a delicious slaw was ideal for me. Very fulfilling. If you eat small portions, you can eat half and take rest for dinner. Silver (gold) ware and nice napkins as you can see in the picture. They do care for environment! It was a sunny day. Mega moda with fresh squeezed orange juice, they have other fruit options too!

Chef Goff knocks it out of the park. The roots shine through while being updated and providing some great improvements, like table service and local food at low prices. Is it McDonald’s cheap? No, of course not. But it’s retains its status as one of the cheapest diners in town, it has excellent diner food and drinks that source locally when possible and are crafted in amazing ways (Get that hot chicken sandwich. Do it. Don’t wait.), and it charges what it needs to in order to source that food AND take care of its people. The spirit of Tastee lives on while embracing change that’s been a long time coming. Here’s to another 80 years thanks to the improvements that have been made!
ETA: I never doubted, but their AVL Restaurant Week offerings were excellent. I mean just look at that pancake sandwich! There were eggs and syrup in there too!

My husband and I stopped here for a late brunch after hiking and it was our favorite meal on our trip. I kind of wish I was hungover for this meal bc it would have cured my regret and hangover haze right away, I’m sure.
We got …a lot. The poutine, mixed green salad, fried chicken grits bowl with sausage gravy, and the yard bird sandwich with tater salad.
Everything was hot and fresh and each dish had its own razzle dazzle twist. The grits were to die for — the fried herbs on the grit bowl *chefs kiss*. The crisp and seasoning on the fries, nailed it. The salad with its hidden gems of pickled veggies, homemade crunchies, and dressing – refreshing. And the pasilla ‘tater salad…best I’ve ever had. Spicy, tangy, and topped with more home made seed/puffed grain/spicy Cheeto/doritos/witchcraft magic crumble on top. (Management -seriously please reply and give me some clues as to what’s in that.)
Service was great and lovely outdoor seating. Can’t wait to add this to our regular rotation for our next trip. We’re stuffed, otherwise we’d be back for dinner.

Replacing my original review with a new one since the diner has changed hands and is now under the direction of Steven Goff. We arrived just as they opened on a Sunday morning, needing a good breakfast before we hopped on the road for an outing to SC. The service was great, everyone was friendly and both the host/waitperson and the kitchen staff checked on us multiple times while we ate at the bar. The food we chose was fairly standard breakfast food, although the smoked bologna egg sandwich is definitely something you don’t see on too many menus. The pancake was fluffy, the eggs were cooked well (as in, over easy really was over easy) and the coffee was hot and plentiful. The atmosphere is funky and eclectic, and the sticker collection on the hood vent is impressive! The gold flatware and the mismatched plates complimented the decor perfectly. I definitely want to come back for lunch and even breakfast again because there are quite a few more items I’d like to try. If you go first thing in the morning on a cold day, make sure you are ready with layers. It was chilly in the restaurant as the heat got going for the day!
