I was a little skeptical because finding legit good KBBQ is harder outside of major Korean hotspots like LA, ATL, Fort Lee, etc. I thought that maybe this could be the diamond in the rough especially seeing Korean written on the outside.
The food was pretty decent although I’m curious if MSG is used pretty liberally since it’s offered at the sauce bar as a seasoning. I enjoyed the fresh pork belly and brisket although our grill took a little while to get warmed up while the other grill at our table was burning things to a char (part of it was user error for not getting the grill plate changed out more frequently). Speaking of getting the grill plate changed our server was nowhere to be found most of the time we were there. We were the only party there along with a couple. When we first came in, we thought there was no one there and no one was even at the front. The only guy there didn’t seem in a hurry to have us dine there, we almost walked out thinking the meal would also be lackluster. It was hard to flag him down even when we used the call button. He wasn’t mean or rude but just seemed like he was forced to work by family or something… therefore not too motivated to provide good service.
Eating here made me feel sad because it seemed like maybe it was someone’s dream to open a kbbq restaurant in this area but then it ended up in its current state. The atmosphere was dead- very sticky floors (which I know it’s hard to keep up with constant oil and cooking paraphernalia dropping on the floor), no music and no restaurant sounds at all, and very smoky air from the fans and vents not being on.
I almost want to try it again because I want to believe that this time was a fluke but I’m worried I’ll be disappointed again. I enjoyed the food but just felt weird with the service and ambience.
We have been coming for years and hopefully more to come, there really is no place quite like Izziban in our hearts.
Thank you to management and staff for creating and maintaining this wonderful establishment!
The buffet area gives you the freedom to eat all you can eat!
I will definitely come back
FYI: If you post a picture on Instagram with their Halloween todd, you’ll get either free mochi or ice cream!
I will say, if you’re vegetarian, this may not be the place for you because the menu is very very limited. You’ll have only a small handful of options.
She even made me try a few things from the bbq station. Since it was lunch on a Friday afternoon the restaurant was very quiet. Oh l also need to add there’s even an afternoon happy hour price on wine. My lunch (3 rolls) and a glass of wine was only $25. Now that’s what I call enjoying good food on a budget. I often like to ask the server for their recommendations and Daisy had a few of her favorites from the chef’s lunch special. The three rolls I had were Yummi Yummi, Las Vegas and Crunch Salmon. All three were so good.
But I think the Yummi Yummi was my favorite. I would definitely go back one day.
