I ordered the chicken wings with waffles, and everything tasted amazing. My friends tried the fried chicken with a few sides, and everyone loved their meals. The portions were generous enough that we all ended up taking leftovers home. The server was warm and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better.

In CA visiting for a conference. M’Dears was recommended. We were seated right away. I had chicken wings and waffles . It was delicious! The others had fried chicken and sides. The portions were more than enough. We all had to get take out boxes. The server was very friendly. We did not have to wait long for our food either.

Hey, you guys, so im back with my review for M’Dears. I have been eating here for a while but I always get the same thing and it’s always good even if you have to warm it u, which I really like. I have been in person, butit’ss really small and intimate, so I usually order to pick up or delivery. This time I got delivery. The food still arrived good and fresh. They usually give you all the condiments you need, and they staple the bag, which makes me feel more secure, and they have the nice containers that keep the food warm. I get the chicken and waffle with medium scrambled eggs with cheese and grits on the side. Usually, it is about 57.00 for two orders. I get one for my child. My other daughter gets the pancakes and bacon, which is good as well. The chicken is so good and seasoned and flavorful. The waffles are so buttery and soft. The eggs are so soft I usually just add black pepper. The grits are so good and cooked to perfection. I usually add a little butter and black pepper and a dash of salt. The workers are normally friendly, and they make sure the order is right. Now, when I do order the pancakes and bacon, the bill is closer to 70.00 or so dollars so be prepared to pay. They also can be busy, and they dont have the food sitting around, so be prepared to wait about 20-30 minutes.

It was so cute! Like a mini modern diner. It looks small but there is more seating in the back with what looks like a full bar. The waiting staff wore cute pink shirts. Spent $80 for 3 people for breakfast. My mom had shrimp and grits. The presentation was beautiful. She said it was good. I had French toast which was delicious. I wasn’t a fan of the potatoes and the bacon was a little crispy. My dad had fish I think. He always eats everything so not sure how he felt about it. My waiter was attentive. We didn’t sit too long to be seated or to be served. If your looking for a soul good breakfast spot this is it!

TO THE OWNER OF THIS BUSINESS…

The food here at M’Dears is something I’ve heard is a must try when in LA and was excited to visit. Upon my visit, however, a decrepit level of customer service was experienced by myself and company that completely turned us off and left.

To begin, there was staff working in the front entrance but we were not acknowledged at all upon entrance. After a few minutes, I made an attempt to try to get the attention of said staff but their back was turned to us and was not approachable. However, a second staff member gave from what looked like the back and immediately greeted us cordially (which I definitely appreciated). However, when inquires were made about dine in, she explained to me that

1. The outdoor patios were not available although there was a gentleman at the time sitting outside enjoying what looked like a very tasty meal.

2. The back section was closed for seating at the time, leaving only the front section where just about every seating booth was occupied.

At this point, the first staff member whom I tried to talk to upon entrance chimed in a few words, either confirming what was said by the other but in a distasteful way. At this point, I was flabbergasted at the amount of disrespect I had endured in a span of 5 mins and proceeded to leave instead of reciprocating the said level of disrespect back. I say all this to say a few things in conclusion:

* Your food looked amazing and would still like an opportunity to try it

* Your employees should undergo a new training of customer service because what I experienced was definitely not it

* Clarify the dine in options with proper signage to new patrons so that there is no confusion between who is allowed to dine outside and who isn’t

* There is no real point of having 5 star quality food for people to eat if you cannot have the equal level of customer service available to match it – no one wants to feel invisiable or ignored at a patron in a dining establishment

I hope you heed my suggestions so that your restaurant can continue to be received at a must dine experience in one of this country’s biggest urban regions. Thanks for reading and have a great day.

The restaurant is cute, clean and inviting. They play nice R&B music. To sit inside is a really enjoyable experience. The server was pleasant and friendly once we got his attention. At first we waited several minutes to get his attention and ask could we sit even though there was no wait. The food was bad and I don’t ever need to eat any of it again. The cornbread muffins were hard. The yams mushy and unflavored. The dressing was stiff and bland. The cabbage and macaroni and cheese was ok.

Cute cafe with an awesome ambience. This is a hot spot for locals and tourists. You can either eat outside or inside. They have 2 sides to this cafe/restaurant. Great prices for those on a budget. The customer service is great and friendly. Raketa is super cool and makes sure you leave satisfied. A must stop by.

Update: We visited M’Dears just after New Year’s. Our young adults said the pancakes were mediocre and tasted odd to them. I tried some of the pancakes, and I thought they tasted good. I ordered Reggie’s Vegetables, which turned out to be quite bland. Most of the vegetables, like peppers, onions, and broccoli, were raw. The home-style potatoes were the highlight of the meal. The only thing that made it better was the eggs—both overeasy and scrambled—that our children shared with me since they don’t eat them. We suspected our waiter was new because we had to ask a couple of times before we finally received our warm water. This time, we paid the bill after the meal, which was different from our experience on Mother’s Day in 2024.

For our Mother’s Day celebration at M’Dears in Los Angeles, the atmosphere was very neighborhood-friendly, and you could tell they support many local businesses. A good number of people came out to celebrate the occasion. The value and portion sizes were well-balanced. They served some delicious drinks, especially one called the New Orleans Hurricane. The French toast, chicken sausage, and hotcakes were all tasty. I also tried salmon croquettes and fried snapper, but both were dry and lacked rich flavor. Overall, we enjoyed the food and were fully satisfied, so we decided to return to M’Dears in the future. The menu is extensive, and there are plenty of sweet options, like banana pudding.

Always enjoy those mom and pop restaurants hidden in the city. The food was delicious. The waffle and pancakes were sweet and soft. The catfish was bussin with flavor. The grits were like grannies special. The chicken sausage patty meal was hot and mouthwatering. Do not skip out on coming to this location, I will have this on my designated breakfast spot when near LA.
