First time eating here. Did not have to wait to be seated for an early dinner. Madison was our server and she was outstanding. She was attentive and very honest about the menu especially in regard to the level of spice. We ordered shrimp tempura as an appetizer which was excellent. My husband ordered the bibimbap with the spicy kimchi on the side which was very spicy (thanks Madison for suggesting it on the side). I ordered the Crack chicken which was also very good, a little more spicy than I expected but the yum yum sauce calmed it some. My only disappointment was the fried rice which was a little mushy. We will definitely be back.

Great Sushi and salmon with veggies and waffle fries, shrimp shewers… The new shrimp and corn chowder was too sweet for my taste. The salad was very fresh and ginger dressing was on point this time. Last time, it was spoiled, so always recognize the true taste because it’s very good. Personally, I would have preferred it not be sweet, so I could better taste the shrimp and corn…salt, pepper and garlic would have been great to add to cut sweetness possibly from sweet corn, cream or other additives. Our 1st time having fried oreos, very sweet, but tasty. I would suggest limiting whip cream or use a lite whip since chocolate swirls were also added. Pretty, but too much excess for such small oreos. Of course, we ate it .
Service was Exceptional by McKinley because she was very attentive to all our needs from serving us with professionalism, kindness, beautiful smiles and ensuring we were fully satisfied all the down to taking our numerous pictures. This was a very special lunch before my sister get a major medical procedure done, so McKinley’s great service meant the world to us. Thank you again McKinley.

the staff can’t be held responsible – they’re just doing the job they were hired for and they do it well. a shame the restaurant steals their tips. anyway, nice atmosphere and decor. Bulgogi Fries not bad. but goodness gracious what on earth is this excuse for “ramen”. visually, spot on. but the taste could not be further from reality. 豚骨 (tonkatsu) is pork bone, but tell me how the only thing I can taste is fish, and horrible fish at that? ramen does traditionally have a bit of dried fish, but there shouldn’t be a fishy taste at all. pork should be the dominant taste and yet it’s nowhere to be found. no idea how the chashu was seasoned but it was no better. this is the people of Goldsboro’s only option for Japanese ramen, as Narita serves Korean rameyun and Nai Thai sells a Thai variation. this is, in no way, “authentic” and is quite frankly one of the worst things I’ve ever eaten that labeled itself ramen. not at all surprising for a place that pays Ninja Hibachi workers $7.25 in 2026!

Wait time wasn’t that long for a weekend. Great customer service. Sushi was good and affordable. Everything we had was delicious. Only wish we had more table space. We ordered lots of food for two people and the table were we sat at was too small. The food was well seasoned. Definitely recommend this place ! ❤️❤️

I LOVED everything about Jay’s Kitchen! Highly recommended! They have the bulgogi on lock! I had the bulgogi wrap which was AMAZING! And I also had the crack chicken, a must have for sure. Pink lemonade was my beverage of choice with my meal and my dessert was a delish chocolate martini. Hubby had sushi and said it smashed! We even tried the bulgogi fries, 10’s across the board!!! We went on a Sunday around 3:30pm and it was not packed at all and the service was great! Ashley was very attentive. We will definitely be back soon!

Jay’s Kitchen is really good! I had the sweet potato noodles with veggies and my hubby had the spicy seafood dish. He surprised me when he said his dish was perfectly flavored! He always says stuff is just okay. My dish was delicious! And both dishes were just enough with no take home box needed. The Avocado Roll is simply scrumptious! Great service too. Monday night is a great night to go…less busy.

Clara at Jay’s Kitchen: A Bartender Who Deserves Her Own Stage
I don’t go to Jay’s Kitchen for the food, the lanterns, or the lo-fi jazz. I go for Clara.
She’s the bartender at this little Japanese spot, and she’s the kind of person who makes you believe in magic again. The second you sit down, she’s already reading you—your mood, your palate, your tolerance for risk. She’ll greet you with a quiet “Irasshaimase” and a smile that feels like it was saved just for you. Then she starts building.
Her highballs are flawless: ice carved by hand, whisky measured with a jeweler’s eye, soda so cold it hisizzles. She’ll twist a yuzu peel over a gin cocktail and make it taste like sunrise. She knows when to talk and when to let the silence do the work. She’ll pour you a sake flight and explain the rice polish ratio like it’s the plot of your favorite novel. And when the night’s winding down, she’ll slide a tiny ceramic cup of umeshu across the bar with a wink and say, “This one’s on me. You earned it.”
But here’s what kills me: Clara is a bourbon genius working with a children’s menu.
The top shelf behind her is all Yamazaki and Hibiki—beautiful, sure, but useless to her real talent. The bourbon? One sad bottle of Maker’s Mark and a Knob Creek that’s been open since the Edo period. Clara dreams in bourbon. She’s told me (quietly, conspiratorially) about the Blanton’s old fashioned she’d make with a dash of black sugar syrup, or the Booker’s Manhattan she’d age in a tiny cedar barrel behind the bar. She’s sketched recipes on napkins, tested ratios on slow Tuesdays, and once let me try a cask-strength Stagg highball that made me see God.
She doesn’t complain. She just works with what she’s got, turning mid-shelf into miracles. But give her a real arsenal—Blanton’s, Stagg, Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel, maybe a Pappy 15 for special nights—and Clara wouldn’t just shine. She’d burn the place down in the best way.
Jay’s Kitchen is lucky to have her. But Clara deserves better than a backbar that clips her wings. Four stars for now, but if they ever stock the bourbon she needs? Five stars won’t be enough.
Come for the highballs. Stay for Clara.

Visited Goldsboro for the first time since moving to NC in 2018. Some of the locals recommended Jay’s Kitchen for lunch. I was not disappointed at all! This was wonderful! For an appetizer we chose the “pick two” and ended up with 2 appetizers for $13! The Bulgogi fries were kinda like a play on carne asada fries and they were wonderful! The Gyoza was excellent and the dipping sauce was different than what most places serve but it was great! Then we had The Goldsboro Roll and the Waka Waka roll… both were delicious. Our waiter was extremely friendly, personable, and attentive! Definitely recommend Jay’s.
