I would highly recommend not going during the rush/peak hours. Took an hour and a half for our order to come out. We arrived right at noon. Our visit was July 28th, 2025.
We were going to hit the road right after lunch so I ordered on the safe side and got the chicken sandwich. It was okay, satisfied the craving for a chicken sandwich.

Ok so I hate to malign a local business. I really do… however if you give them more than one change and they still foul it up, well… here we are.
I tried to take my 8yo son in for a treat about 15 mins before they were to close… already had a sign in the window that they were closed, and the sign was off. The next day I tried again, this time way earlier in the day and much to my surprise they were OUT OF ICE CREAM.
Yes, an establishment called MALT shoppe was out of ice cream. This is like KFC running out of chicken… cumon guys.

A good stop in the River Center at pagosa springs. Burgers can be customized and go up to a whole pound! Shakes and fries were delicious!

We had malts. Don’t get them. Wow, decades ago I was a soda-jerk and I made shakes, malts, banana splits, cherry cokes etc etc. So I know what they should be like. Here? If there were free, I’d pass. Nope. No thank you. The malt powder was chunky on the bottom of my cup. The vanilla ice cream seemed less than good.
Service? There was one customer ahead of us and more workers than customers. Was the counter help friendly? Yes! But wow they seemed overwhelmed by just a few simple orders. It took forever to get two simple malts. They weren’t cheap either. And then the taste: so disappointing! I’ll not be back. The workers were cheerful and friendly and I wish them well. But no more shakes or malts from here. No.

We had just arrived into Pagosa Springs from Texas and we were all so hungry! Food was all so good. Had burgers, chili cheese fries, grilled ham and cheese… and Ofcourse we tried their malts! We were so stuffed! Bathrooms were clean. Staff was all so nice! Many seating available.

Amazing malts and shakes! Prices were great and very reasonable. The owner didn’t raise prices because they are in a mountain town. The staff were kind and in good spirits despite being really busy on NYE. The old school decor and menu make you feel like you stepped back in time. I recommend paying in cash.

We hung out here for several hours while we were figuring out what to do with our car that had stopped working and it was a great place to stay a while with two kiddos. The staff was very kind and understanding of our situation. We enjoyed having their green chili smothered burger, the patty melt, their chicken and fries, and a Carmel shake and a coffee malt. The single order of French fries came out nice and hot. They were very satisfying.
