This was my first time visiting Chicago, and dining at Nellie’s Restaurant was truly a highlight of my trip. The coconut oatmeal was hands down the best breakfast I’ve had — perfectly creamy, flavorful, I also ordered the Sancho, and it did not disappoint. It was packed with flavor and cooked just right. The food reminded me so much of Puerto Rico — authentic, rich, and full of heart. It honestly brought back beautiful memories. I can’t wait to come back the next time I’m in Chicago. Highly recommend to anyone looking for delicious, authentic food and a great dining experience!”**

I ordered a traditional Puerto Rican dish it was good but it missed on the salt and pepper. Besides that my friends I was here with said theirs was good.
We ordered Coca Cola Zero and it came like after 10 min that was kind of really late. But I would still recommend it the pastry’s they had here the traditional ones look pretty delicious and good.

I came into nellies with 4 of my friends and the experience we had today was phenomenal. The Puerto Rican tradition feels alive and the food is very authentic. Alex was our host and honestly the best server I ever had. I highly recommend coming here if your in the area!

Don’t miss out on the avena de coco! Never been a fan of avena but the one from Nellie’s is definitely an exception. I got the breakfast jibarito, it was pretty good, would order it again. The atmosphere is very homey which I appreciated.

i don’t know who’s complaining about the “slow service/wait,” because it’s damn well worth it and that’s how you KNOW the food is gonna be good! this ain’t no fast food, this is QUALITY <3 hugeeee portions, from the cafe con leche to the Nellie’s breakfast special! i could eat that avena de coco every day… amazing puerto rican cuisine, we were absolutely stuffed and so happy!

Came to Nellie’s with my family and this place did NOT disappoint. We ordered the jibarito and it was 11/10 — absolutely amazing. I literally came all the way from Colorado just to get a legit jibarito, and this one slapped harder than any I’ve had. Flavor on point, portions perfect, and the whole vibe feels like home.
Highly recommend — Nellie’s is the real deal.

My friend and I visited Nellie’s on Sunday 2/15 and had a rare bad experience. We made a reservation, got there on time and still had to wait a couple minutes before being seated. There was a couple that was seated next us maybe 10 min after we did and noticed that they got their food after we did, which prompted us to flag down staff to give us an update on our food. By that point we had been waiting about 45 min which is then when they finally brought out the avena de coco.
We still waited a bit for food and when it finally came my friends order was wrong, which might have been mixed up since the server didn’t write down our order. They did correct it but my friend had to wait another 10 min for her food.
We overheard the server tell the couple next us that they would be getting 20% off their bill for the long wait, which we also expected to get since we waited longer but we did not.
We did not get checked on the entire time we were there, not even for water refills. We also had to the get the attention of staff to give us our check. We did get offered some free desserts but we weren’t interested.
This is a completely different experience from what we’re use to at Nellie’s. Hope they do better.

The food is cooked with very minimal effort. The ham egg and cheese sandwich was more bread than anything. Hard bread at that Wasn’t toasted. The thinnest slice of ham. Cheese wasn’t even melted. The potato’s were just boiled potato’s with a bunch of adobo or some sort of seasoning wasn’t the type of food I expected for a restaurant.

Food is delicious, weekend service was better. On Thursday 10: am. was awful. The 2 girls were talking to each other. Drink preparation took forever & was prepared wrong. They kept following each other throughout the restaurant and not even once they ask customers if we need something. We have to aks for everything. No syrup for the pancakes, no utensils on our table so I grabbed it from another table. They have 0 interactions with customers. Good restaurants go down because of lousy servers service. I noticed they bring out multiple tables food at the same time so your food is warm instead of hot. I don’t think I will ever come back

Cute little place. Everything was good. Staff was nice and friendly and talked about the menu. I liked the omelette way more than I expected. The cappuccino and cinnamon coconut oatmeal was good—just a bit too much cinnamon on top of the oatmeal, but it was good. Definitely a good spot for breakfast/lunch.
