Social Profile:

Very few restaurants have the staying power to celebrate even a quarter-century of service, but El Fenix celebrated their Centennial! Founded in 1918, by Mike Martinez, a Mexican immigrant, El Fenix is credited as “The Originator of Tex-Mex Cuisine.” It has been named an “All American Icon” by Nation’s Restaurant News and a must-see dining destination for visitors to North Texas. Acquired by Local Favorite Restaurants™ in 2008, El Fenix was refurbished with freshened interiors and a revamped menu, while maintaining its signature authentic elements.

Branch of a long-running chain serving Tex-Mex staples in a hacienda-style setting.

I couldn’t decide! So many good choices. I ended up having the taco salad and when I say it was the best I’ve ever had…..omg! So good. Hubs had the creamy enchilada….devoured. Today is his bday, they even made his a churro topped with ice-cream. Ambiance was nice and mellow. Yes, there were children there. We did get in at the right time – 5ish, because as we were almost done, it got packed! We will definitely return.

Never ever disappoints. It’s so nostalgic for us. We used to live in Texas for thirty years before moving to Virginia. Every time we come back to visit family and friends, we go to El Fenix first! The cheese enchilada “Wednesday Special” for $7.49 is a great deal. And the service is top notch, everyone is so sweet. *Pro tip: ask for the enchilada sour cream sauce to dip your nachos in. You’re welcome.

We love this place. Like tonight Mario was our server and used (apparently) his psychic powers to keep us in salsa and chips. Which chips by the way are for my money the best. And you can tell that GiGi the manager expects the best.

This place has beeny go-to since I was in diapers! Lol. We used to go to the one downtown but this one is closer to us and all of the locations are fantastic! Discount beef, chicken or cheese enchiladas every Wednesday! I’ll go any day of the week because everything there is FAB. Prices are great. Not much more than you would spend at McDonalds. TOTALLY worth it.

I decided to treat myself to a d
bowl of chicken tortilla soup from my favorite local restaurant. The soup was rich and savory, loaded with tender pieces of chicken, vibrant vegetables, and topped with crispy tortilla strips. It came with a side of freshly made chips and zesty salsa. After placing my order, I opted to take it to go.

Soooo good!!! Stopped in for lunch, you know a place is good when the restaurant is busy. The decor inside is very lively, and the food was delicious. I got a cup of the chicken tortilla soup, really generous for being a smaller portion, it was delicious. I also got an appetizer sampler, great selection and it was all fantastic. I can’t wait to go back to start trying all of the other items on the menu! Oh, and the chips and salsa were really good too.

El Fenix is a staple from my childhood growing up in Dallas. I never seem to be able to get past the cheese enchiladas! Rounded out with chips and salsa and a sopapilla, it’s the perfect meal! The atmosphere is inviting and the staff was friendly and attentive.

I went to El Fenix yesterday with my family. We had a group of 13, so I arrived about 20 minutes early to give the restaurant time to prepare and ensure everything could run smoothly when my family arrived.

From the moment I spoke with the manager, Pablo, I was made to feel like an imposition rather than a customer. His attitude set the tone for the entire visit. The customer service was extremely poor — I would even say nonexistent.

While the food itself was good, our waiter was not attentive, and it was clear that the lack of leadership and professionalism from management played a major role in that.

Overall, we felt rushed, unwelcome, and like an inconvenience from the moment we walked through the doors. It was a disappointing experience, especially for what should have been a nice family gathering.

As an out of towner, this place was SO good! The vibes inside were immaculate. The chips are out of this world (I get why they sell them on their own). The serve was incredibly kind. And the food was fantastic! Couldn’t ask for better!
