Very few restaurants have the staying power to celebrate even a quarter-century of service, but El Fenix celebrated their Centennial! Founded in 1918, by Mike Martinez, a Mexican immigrant, El Fenix is credited as “The Originator of Tex-Mex Cuisine.” It has been named an “All American Icon” by Nation’s Restaurant News and a must-see dining destination for visitors to North Texas. Acquired by Local Favorite Restaurants™ in 2008, El Fenix was refurbished with freshened interiors and a revamped menu, while maintaining its signature authentic elements.
Branch of a long-running chain serving Tex-Mex staples in a hacienda-style setting.

bowl of chicken tortilla soup from my favorite local restaurant. The soup was rich and savory, loaded with tender pieces of chicken, vibrant vegetables, and topped with crispy tortilla strips. It came with a side of freshly made chips and zesty salsa. After placing my order, I opted to take it to go.
From the moment I spoke with the manager, Pablo, I was made to feel like an imposition rather than a customer. His attitude set the tone for the entire visit. The customer service was extremely poor — I would even say nonexistent.
While the food itself was good, our waiter was not attentive, and it was clear that the lack of leadership and professionalism from management played a major role in that.
Overall, we felt rushed, unwelcome, and like an inconvenience from the moment we walked through the doors. It was a disappointing experience, especially for what should have been a nice family gathering.
