Items from Salinas Cafe that I tried during my 4 weeks as a juror:
1. Angus burger….just don’t. Worst burger I ever had, and pretty sure that’s not 100% Angus beef, maybe there was some beef in the room when they made it. 1 star at best.
2. Grilled Chicken Sandwich, bland but adequate, 3 stars.
3. Chicken Salad Sandwich from the refrigerator, 3 stars.
4. Hot beef sandwich au jus, 4 stars. Doesn’t look like much but it’s the heartiest and most tasty thing on their menu. Would have been a philly cheesesteak if the white bread was swapped out with the proper type of philly bread roll.
5. Chef’s Salad from the refrigerator. 3 stars.
6. Lemon Drops from Old Towne Bakery, 4 stars
7. Raspberry jam “Sandwiches” from Old Towne Bakery, 4 stars.
8 Potato cheese soup, not bad, 3.5 stars.

As a juror, you’re pretty much a captive audience in this building; if you don’t want to go hungry, you can either get something from the vending machine in the dining area, or from Salinas Cafe.
(Yeah I know they say you can walk to nearby restaurants…never happens, it’s cutting it too close for when you have to return to court).

I got the impression from the get-go that it was taboo to bring my own food into the courthouse, so there ya go. I did once pack a salad from home and left it in my car, ate it in-car during the lunch recess. That’s probably the best option and will save you money.

Happy lunching!

One small bowl of shrimps rise is $13:10 ( just the few shrimp in it) I think that’s the good enough reason to not go there again.

Great garbanzo soup of the day with celery, carrots, and tomato. Shame it comes in a styrofoam container. Can they afford to put it in a reusable bowl and then wash it later?

Food is ok, somethings are a little on the pricey side for what you get.
