It is very rare you find a young person like Kya. She didn’t have her face buried in her phone. She made sure I didn’t need anything. She kept my cup filled with sweet tea without me having to ask and had a to go container as soon as I was finish eating and when I tell you the sweetheart bagged it up for me.
Please visit everyone is nice and will make sure you have a great experience
I ordered the 2-piece dark fried chicken with turnip greens, yams, and cornbread. My girlfriend ordered the fried green tomatoes, salmon croquettes, cabbage, black-eyed peas, and peach cobbler and we both had the VIP drinks. A must to get!
Let’s start with that fried chicken — I took one bite and literally had a tear in my eye. It reminded me of my mother’s fried chicken when I was a little girl. Omg! It was crispy, juicy, and seasoned to perfection. The yams were out of this world, and the turnip greens were so flavorful you didn’t even need hot sauce!
The salmon croquettes had amazing flavor and breading — just a little on the dry side — but the house-made tartar sauce complemented them perfectly. The cabbage was delectable. She said the fried green tomatoes tasted just like her grandmother’s. The black-eyed peas were full of flavor.
The peach cobbler had great flavor, though it was a bit thick and dry — I would have loved a few more peaches. The cornbread was the only real miss for me — a bit dry, thick, and cold.
Even with those small notes, everything else — especially the service and the soul in the food — made this a must-visit spot. We’ll definitely be back next time we’re in Memphis!
And most importantly, they have the absolute BEST lemon pie that I have ever tasted anywhere
Love seeing folks not from the south take a sip of the VIP for the first time (as Mr. Jerry calls it liquid crack ). Love the hospitality of the Thompson crew, TJ, Jack and others.
I liked the style of the place, too. Lots of old photos and articles about The Fourway, and its history. Some interesting old pieces decorated the restaurant that gave it a warm nostalgic feel.
This was my first visit, but I’ll definitely be back to try more food for the soul, and soak up the atmosphere, check out the photos, and nourish body and soul with the good food, good music, and good people.
