Pretty cool rustic place with excellent fried chicken. The sides, however were lacking in quality: instant potatoes and what tasted like vegetables from a can. The dessert offerings are worth trying as well. Because the sides were not great, it should be a 3 star, but that chicken somewhat redeemed it.

Unlike no other! i’ve been asking around town for great chicken. This is the place everyone points to. This restaurant serves family style with bottomless sides. There were only 6 options on the menu and I believe one was a vegetarian option. I ordered the fried chicken and it came out incredibly hot and fresh tasting. The pieces were large and juicy. These weren’t spicy but you can get a few jalapeños on the side if looking for that. also on the table sets honey and sorghum to drizzle on your bread or chicken. Unaware of sorghum Cory, whom I later found out was the owner, educated me on it! They also sell three different meringe pies, Pineapple upside down cake, cherry cobbler and a pecan pie. the meringue will melt in your mouth. They dont serve alcohol but you’re allowed to bring in your own wine beer.
Aside from the tasty food the service was thorough and very reasonably priced! I’ll definitely return!

I’ve been in Abilene for about 7 years now and everyone has always raved about how good this place is, so I decided to give it a shot on a Friday night.
Very popular, I got there at peak dinner rush and had to wait a bit, but was seated within 30 minutes. It’s BYOB (bring your own beer)
There are no menus, your server will tell you what there is.
Fried or roasted chicken, chicken fried steak, catfish, and chicken and dumplings are the main entrees.
Homemade yeast rolls, corn, green beans, and mashed potatoes with gravy are the side dishes.
You are not allowed to take the sides to go which is a bit disappointing, but they’re apparently unlimited. The portion size on the sides is smaller, which is a bit disappointing, but again, you can order as much as you want.
Fried chicken was HOT, moist, crispy, and flavorful. I imagine this is what KFC used to be like, pre-1960.
Catfish was a bit earthy, but that’s how some catfish is and I didn’t dislike it, breading was excellent.
Chicken and wonton soup was also good and HOT!
Gravy was enjoyable, but was a bit cold when I received it.
Mashed potatoes were okay, I didn’t hate them.
Green beans were good too, cooked with bacon.
Rolls were always nice and HOT!
Atmosphere is nice, southern homestyle. The servers are all attentive and friendly. Occasionally, they would break out into song and dance especially for children which was a sight to see haha.
Interestingly, the staff all spoke highly of the food, especially the chicken fried steak. One called it “The best in Abilene” which kind of made me wish I had ordered it over the catfish haha.
Not a bad place to eat overall, beats the hell out of chain restaurants where the passion for food, service, and people left many years ago.
Belle’s has a simple menu, pleasing atmosphere, and it’s clear that the chicken is their bread and butter because they do it so well and don’t stray too far outside their comfort zone.
I like this place, I just wish they would do a few more veggies as the sides like collared greens, buttered green peas, black eyed peas, or something along those lines.
Not sure when I’ll be back, but I would come again just for the atmosphere accompanied by a bottle of beer.

We had a big group of 12. Our waitress AMY was fabulous!!!! She’s made the experience tolerable. The food like the family sides were ok…but the chicken and dumplings were like eating salt. Super salty!!! The chicken fried steak was too tough…could barely cut into it. The rolls were super good. I filled up on the rolls.

Hands down the beat meal I’ve had on the road so far. Not far off I20 in Abilene Texas. Highly recommend stopping by to eat and definitely bring your appetite. They serve it family style with unlimited rolls, and fours sides. Your choice of meat.

I love Belle’s. I couldn’t wait to get back to get my favorite tenders. I ordered Togo tonight. I got 2 gravy’s and no mashed potatoes. The green beans are normally flavorful but tonight they tasted like canned. I got ONE roll when they normally give 2.
For $21 plate, this was not a happy for me. Disappointed with my order.
The service is always wonderful and everyone is so attentive and polite. I’m a bit shocked because I’ve never had a bad experience there. So still 3 stars because everyone makes mistakes. Next time I will definitely check my order in full before leaving.

This just happened about 10 minutes ago. So were heading back home from ft worth to odessa. We usually stop at belles either coming in or leaving but it was a go to place any chance we got.
This time we took my mom, told her how good the food was and the service, most of the time was great.
Today was not the case. It took over 20 minutes for our drinks to even come out.
Made me wonder why our service wasnt the best but when the other tables surrounding had constant attention and drinks filled at all times.
We split the check, my mom paid first. It clearly said check 2 on it. The cashier, after my mom telling her “im paying for my food, shes (me) paying for the rest of the ticket”. She checks my mom out, runs to tell someone something and from there were being watched as if we were trying to skip out on the tab or something.
While my mom is trying to pay, the cashier thought it was ok to snatch up my moms food and spin it and inspect the bag. I dont know why she felt the need to grab what wasnt hers, it wasnt in the way, it wasnt on anything but thw counter.
Definitely wont be coming back. Crazy to spend over a hundred dollars to be treated such a way.

My wife had fried. chicken and I had chicken n dumplings. The available sides where whole kernel corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, cream gravy and dinner rolls. The meal was wonderful and the portion sizses where big. We had enough left over for supper later that evening. The only downside was my dumplings had to much salt and pepper. The salt was not so bad as to make the dish unedible but it was a bit much. The pepper was a bit much but I love pepper. We will be going back.

Today was our first time eating here. The food was amazing! We were able to share entees and the sides and bread are bottomless and shared by the whole table. The food was excellent! My friend let me try a piece of her chicken fried steak and it was soooo good. I shared the chicken tenders with house-made honey mustard dipping sauce with my son and they were really good. Our waitress was great, polite, and patient in explaining everything. Overall an awesome experience, I can see why they are always busy! We will definitely be back!

As the road trip continued, Belle’s Chicken Dinner House appeared on the radar and we’re glad that it did. The menu is straight forward: you choose a main dish (fried chicken, chicken tenders, baked chicken, chicken fried chicken (think of schnitzel made of chicken with thicker outer layer) or even fried catfish and then you get a choice of sides for $18.99 (plus tax and tip). We chose green beans, creamed corn, mashed potatoes and gravy for our sides. What’s more, sitting there waiting for our to-go order, I couldn’t help smelling the freshly baked bread rolls that were served to everyone dining there. It was so exciting to find a couple of the rolls in our to-go bag once we opened it! The food was very filling, hearty. The creamed corn and bread rolls were standouts and the chicken itself crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. As for the atmosphere, it’s a bit dark inside with dim lighting. When you do look at the walls, which you should, you’ll have a laugh – there are cutouts of famous characters with quotes slightly altered in good humor. There were also country classics from George Strait, Garth Brooks, Brooks n Dunn and even Waylon Jennings playing overhead that added to the overall ambience – its a roadside diner and it does it very well! And finally the service could not have been nicer. A first timer at Belle’s, the friendly waitress explained the options and answered all my questions including about the incredibly delicious smelling bread rolls. The wait was probably 15 to 20 minutes, which was fine for us knowing that it is not a fast food joint. All around solid choice when you’re in Abilene. Highly recommend!!
