This charm has been shining for a few years now. You can say “The diamond in the rough.” Aprils is a fast food mom and pop eatery which I like.

The Lemon chicken, Crab Rangoon and the egg drop soup was a perfect meal for a quick lunch. If you’re in the south side of Downtown come by and have a try. A huge menu and lunch specials are til 3 pm.

My April’s Chinese Restaurant Review
While April’s may be a hole in the wall, the food is absolutely phenomenal. I’ve been wanting to try this place for a long time, and I’m so glad I finally did. I will 100% be back, even if the building itself needs some serious love. Here’s a breakdown of my experience:
* Customer Service: 1 Star
The service here is top-notch. Every single employee, from the cashier to the waiters, was incredibly friendly and attentive. They made our visit a pleasure. I would rate the service 10/10.
* Pricing: 1 Star
The prices are unbelievably affordable for the quality and portion sizes you get. The food is so good that I honestly think they could charge more to help upgrade their facilities. They’d still be a great value. I would rate the pricing 10/10.
* Cleanliness: Lost 1 Star
This is where the restaurant falls short. The facility looks very run-down, and honestly, it felt pretty dirty and unappetizing. While the food is amazing, the dining area desperately needs a deep clean and an upgrade. I also noticed the restroom was right by the seating area, which isn’t ideal. I would rate the cleanliness 1/10.
* Food: 1 Star
The food itself was fantastic, earning one full star from me! I have zero complaints about the quality and flavor of most of the dishes.
* General Tso’s Chicken: 10/10 — The best I’ve ever had. The chicken was cooked perfectly with a crunchy breading, and it was packed with flavor all the way through.
* Fried Rice: 10/10 — Excellent flavor and packed with fresh vegetables.
* Cheese Rangoons: 1/10 — Unfortunately, these were a big letdown. They tasted strongly of old fryer oil, and it was clear they weren’t sealed correctly, as the oil seeped inside.
* Egg Rolls: 8/10 — These were much better than the rangoons. They had great flavor inside, and I didn’t taste any dirty oil.
* Egg Drop Soup: 10/10 — Absolutely delicious! It was so rich and flavorful.
* Beef & Broccoli: 10/10 — The beef had an amazing texture, which can be rare at some Chinese restaurants. It wasn’t chewy at all, and the vegetables and sauce were perfect.
* Convenience: 1 Star
April’s is incredibly fast, perfect for a quick lunch break. My soup came out in minutes, and our main dishes followed in less than five. The food was piping hot, and their drive-thru option is super convenient. I would rate the convenience 10/10.

If you’re craving exceptional Chinese food, look no further! Our office recently ordered delivery for lunch, and it was a flawless experience. The food arrived fresh, hot, and perfectly prepared. The delivery was impressively quick, and our order was spot on—no missing or incorrect items. Their boiled tea had just the right level of sweetness, striking a perfect balance. This is the kind of meal that leaves you completely satisfied, not to mention super super affordable!!! I’d recommend this spot to anyone looking for delicious, reliable Chinese cuisine. A must-try!

Shrimp lo mein, very simple mostly noodles and it had 4 shrimp, shredded cabbage and onions….I had two pieces of shredded carrot….so it’s not for vegetable lovers….. Will like to try more veggies next time…….got the lunch special and an extra egg roll it was just a little over 10 bucks….filling…..very reasonable prices…… The lady at the register is so nice and kind. Very welcoming.

My husband introduced me to April’s and we’ve been twice. My husband always gets orange chicken and this time I got sesame chicken. Last time I got teriyaki chicken. Yes, I admit the egg drop soup (take out doesn’t come with the free chips you have to pay a separate $0.55 additional fee), hot and spice, egg rolls crab rangoon are very tasty however, the chicken is always so dry. Not saying never going back just saying wish that chicken was juicy.

I tried this restaurant for the first time and it has the worst customer service ever. I ordered shrimp tempura, I get home and all I have is fried shrimp with no sauce. I called them and, they don’t even apologize for the discrepancy they just tell me to come all the way back to the restaurant for sauce. I always believed that customer service is key so if you make a mistake on a customer’s order and they go all the way home you can at least give the customer a store credit for the item that he purchased that you screwed up on. I could have fried shrimp at my home I specifically asked for shrimp tempura… worst customer service ever. And to add injury to insult she actually disputed with me saying that the cook said that she put it in the bag. She leave me on hold for about 5 minutes while she’s doing something else and then come back to the phones and again no apology just said that you can come back up here and get the sauce…

Update

Been years since Ive ate here, decided to try the Crispy Orange Beef, it was decent, kinda over the top on the orange flavor, too much orange peel for me, giving it a bitter flavor, had to start digging the chunks of orange out.. We also ordered the tempura shrimp, which was pretty good. Nothing overly amazing this meal, but the prices compared to other places now made it a good deal. If anything I would return just because the food is fair to good, and the prices are below average at the moment.

Service was good, food came out quick, everything tasted good.

First time dining here. Service was decent, food was decent, prices were fair.

Having passed the location many times and a friend saying the food there was decent, we decided to stop in for a meal. I ordered the General Chicken, the portion size was more than enough.

Time to get our order was decent, about 10 minutes. The place was pretty busy with people coming in to pick up orders, and it seems to be the neighborhood Chinese restaurant getting business from surrounding neighborhoods and the downtown area.

I would consider visiting again, maybe during lunch to try some other plates, but even though it wasn’t disappointing, but at the same time the General Chicken wasn’t impressive enough to bring me back.

Service: 4/5

Location: 3/5
Price: 4/5

I work relatively close to April’s and it is somewhere that my coworkers order from often and have raved about the food. I’ve eaten here a handful of times and have tried several different options (General Tso, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, Crab Rangoon) trying to find something that I liked but, unfortunately, the food is just not that great. Anything that I tried that required an item to be breaded or fried, pretty much everything with the exception of the Beef and Broccoli, was overcooked. The crab rangoon was overly cooked on the outer edges, not crispy in a good way, and the inside was so tough that I could barely tear it apart with my teeth. They had a good amount of filling in them, which tasted great, but it was ruined by the fact that I couldn’t eat the whole thing. The chicken in the general tso and sweet and sound chicken was fried for too long and it made the chicken dry and chewy. The beef and broccoli was decent, but it wasn’t anything that I liked well enough to return for. The service itself was great, the staff is friendly and the food is always prepared quickly. The restaurant is clean with a quiet atmosphere.
