I had the Greens..mac & cheese .. Dressing.. Red beans & rice ..cornbread and a Margarita… everything was hot fresh &,Tastee ..I wanted a Bloody Mary but they didnt have the ingredients so I went with the Margarita which had a nice kick to it …they had a dance party going on with music which made the atmosphere vibrant & fun …OQ

I got the smothered fried chicken with black eyed peas and collard greens.
The chicken was really crunchy and flavorful. The gravy made a really nice addition to the chicken, the black eyed peas were also very flavorful, as were the collard greens.
Today, I had the catfish with the same sides as last time. I will update afterwards.

First off I want to say this was the best chicken hands down. I got the jerk chicken my boyfriend got the fried chicken. Both very good ! I gave 4 stars on the food because it seemed like the mac and cheese and collard greens were room temperature when brought to the table ( both plates) should have been hot, at least if not, warm. . I ordered a bacardi and coke and then the long island. They DID not skip out on any liquor, great drinks ! I gave the atmosphere 4 points because it just seemed like a big squared area with just tables put wherever. They could make it more inviting by adding big vases and some decorations. Maybe some candles on the tables. Just seemed like we were eating in a chow hall of some sorts. I will definitely be coming here again and am going to try the catfish this time. Maybe just a pick up. I was looking for romantic and this wasn’t it.

MornTing. I walked in two ladies sitting at the bar advised me how to order after i spoke. Bump all that, when i saw the Mexican lady close the microwave but disnt see what ahe places in it, i said, naw thats not my catfish dinner, maybe 5 min later no joke she walk out wjtb my order. I said that was quick. Anywho I want my $21 returned to my card, please the food was uneatable yes thats what i said, the fish had the microwave burn on it the dressing tasted water down due to microwave reheating. I dont have.money to wast like this ive had nothing but bad food in oakpark…. the building windows need a good washing inside and out, im nervous about the rice and gravy. Who are the owners?

I had the pot roast dinner. Let’s just say there were 2 small pieces of the pot roast meat. There were more potatoes & carrots than meat. Its always a hit or miss. I havent had then since Passion Eats opened up. Wanted some pot roast so bad. I knew 6978 had it. So so disappointed . That whole meal was disappointing along with my banana pudding.

I was craving some soul food so we checked out this spot. Family cozy ambiance. I ordered smothered pork chops, Mac and cheese, yams and banana pudding. It wasn’t bad but could have been better. My chops weren’t completely warmed up but I was so hungry I ate fast. Yams were a bit too sweet and the Mac and cheese needed a bit more flavor. Banana pudding was okay. I will definitely give them another try.

Soul food is a specialty and not every one can do it correctly! 6978 Soul Food can do it.
The atmosphere in the restaurant is okay it definitely gives outdated bar/banquet hall. But one thing I’ve learned as a foodie is how the place looks shouldn’t always deter you from stopping cause we all know some of the best restaurants are holes in the wall.
When we were seated we did a quick check to make sure it was clean and everyone was pleased. Our waitress was extremely sweet and nice. We have a big table with children so we always appreciate waitstaff that are a little understanding.
The food was quick to get to the table which was great because we didn’t have to wait long. Even though the food was quick it was fresh and hot. The sides were amazing! The food was good definitely something to feel your stomach when you have a taste for soul food but don’t want to put in the effort.

Hold on, my second visit was nothing like our first. This was a slow time for them and we were treated like we came an hour before they opened. We sat down to order and with maybe 1 other customer there, it took 10 minutes for someone to come take our order even though we were able to see three or four employees plan on their phones. Then our food took about 20 minutes and it just wasn’t like it was the first time. They treated us like they never wanted us to return. Sad situation for such a small business.
This place deserves a five-star rating however, we were not offered the option to stay and dine-in. We travel a lot so we don’t have the option of eating in any place other than our vehicle or hotel. We were not headed to our hotel so we were forced to eat in our vehicle. Besides that, we arrived shortly after a flash mob did. Even with the crowd, we received our food very quickly and it was worth the stop. Hopefully next time we’ll be able to dine in.

6978 Soul Food is amazing. I appreciate the staffs and managers kindness to me even though I have autism and their food is amazing and really good. Owner Tina and Dorothy is very nice. The restaurant is in good condition. Awesome smothered pork chops. Must come back. 10/10.
