Today, I went to The Merchant for lunch with my friends. Upon arrival, the front desk personnel kindly welcomed us at the restaurant and sat us down. The waiters/waitresses were very caring and really wanted to make sure we are well-served which is a huge plus. The table was beautifully set up, the utensils were clean. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, I really enjoyed the dark bar-like ambiance.

The menu had just the right number of options available; however, it was not the easiest for me to choose the right plate due to the ingredients of each dish. I ended up getting the Fish and Chips. The fries were very thin and over fried, meaning some were hard rock. Unfortunately, you could feel on the haddock that it came from a freezer. It was fried and the breading was way too thick, oily, and in some places hard. It also had air pockets in many spots under the crust. On the bright side, the tartar sauce tasted pretty good. As a whole, this plate does not reflect the $22 price at all and I don’t recommend getting it.

Overall, I liked the restaurant’s looks and the employees’ hospitality but unfortunately a restaurant is mostly about the food it serves. I don’t think I will return to eat here again; maybe I’ll try the drinks next time.

Excellent for date night! I loved the variety of menu, not to mention the quality of the food and drinks. My favorites were the tuna tartare and octopus appetizers. Service was prompt, and the location is great for a pre or post dinner walk and/or show.

This spot truly feels top-notch! The service was excellent, and the food along with the cocktails were outstanding. We ordered the oysters and fries, and both were absolutely delicious something we’d definitely have again. A must visit if you’re around the Boston area!

The Merchant has both indoor and outdoor seating and a solid classic American menu. I ordered the tuna melt — it was fine overall, though I wasn’t a big fan of the flavor in the filling. The sourdough bread was really good, though, and the fries were decent. A nice enough spot for a casual meal.

Seems like a good American place. The crispness of the fish in the fish and chips reminded me a little of British fish and chips where the fish wasn’t overly crunchy and deep fried like what you can get in Gloucester and Cape Cod. I like both versions. The tartar sauce was watery but the taste was fine.

Beer was great. Service was good. Food not so much. I ordered some lamb skewers and the sauce was too spicy and really didn’t let me enjoy the lamb

We came here on a Thursday evening before heading to a show. We tried to the do the parking deal that they have on their website but we couldn’t get it to work so we parked a garage a little ways away. It was easy to get to. We made a reservation but it wasn’t that busy when we got there. My boyfriend ordered a beer on tap. We decided to start with 3 small plates: cauliflower, gnocchi, and arancini. They were all very good, but the cauliflower was very spicy. We decided we were still hungry so we ordered the pan seared cod. Unfortunately, the fire alarm sounded and we had to clear the restaurant. By the time we were allowed back in, we had to leave to get to our show. Our table had also been cleared so my boyfriend did not get to finish his beer. The server offered to box up the cod but we wouldn’t have a place to keep it so we had to decline. Otherwise, it was very good.

Me and my boyfriend were in town for the weekend and decided to go to the Merchant! First of all, I got the Yellowjacket cocktail, so good! Our server, Elizabeth recommended it to me. We split the small plate short ribs which were delicious! Everything was so so good and it was not badly priced either! For a Saturday night, I was surprised we got our food super quickly. Overall, we loved the food and service! Hopefully we will be back!
