
Spencer’s for Steaks and Chops, the original USDA Prime steakhouse, has operated for more than 20 years. A Salt Lake City staple, Spencer’s delivers contemporary and seasonal dishes, hand-cut steaks, fresh seafood, local produce and cheeses as well as classically inspired cocktails, local craft beers and an award-winning wine list. Headed by Executive Chef Tony Coppernoll, Spencer’s continues to innovate to meet the changing and discerning taste of today’s foodies. Working in collaboration with local meat purveyors, Chef Tony draws inspiration from the farm-to-table influence of his humble beginnings in the 300-person town of Lone Rock, Wisconsin.

We first sat st the bar for a drink. Staff was profesional, courteous and funny.
Decided to stay for meal.

Food was very tasty. They offer some sauces but I like steaks with just salt. Need to taste the meats flavor.

We began with the Steak Tartare, and I can honestly say it was the best I’ve ever experienced—perfectly balanced in flavor and texture. Next, we shared a Steakhouse Wedge Salad, which was as visually stunning as it was delicious. Every bite was crisp, fresh, and full of vibrant flavor.
For the main course, our incredible server David recommended the Wagyu Center-Cut Ribeye (medium rare) with Cowboy Butter, paired with the garlic mashed potatoes—a perfect complement. The steak was seared to perfection with a beautiful crust and a melt-in-your-mouth center, while the potatoes were rich, creamy, and packed with buttery, garlicky goodness. Truly unforgettable.
We finished the evening with the Huckleberry Cobbler, which was the perfect ending—a true winning dessert that left us smiling.
From start to finish, Spencer’s delivered an outstanding dining experience. The service, the food, and the atmosphere were all top-notch. I highly recommend this fine establishment to anyone looking for one of Salt Lake City’s best dining experiences.

The steaks were outstanding and cooked perfectly exactly as ordered. You can truly tell the kitchen takes pride in quality and preparation. Every bite was flavorful, tender, and done to perfection. The rest of the meal was just as impressive and we did not have a single miss.
The desserts were fantastic, and Erik surprised us with a complimentary huckleberry cobbler which was absolutely delicious and such a thoughtful touch. On top of that, he went even further above and beyond by giving us a free voucher so we did not have to pay for parking. That level of care and attentiveness truly made the night feel special.
Overall, we would absolutely love to come back and experience everything again. A sincere thank you to Erik and the attentive staff who consistently provided refills and exceptional service throughout our visit.
Spencer’s Steaks and Chops absolutely delivers a top-tier experience from start to finish. I had the Utah elk, tenderloin kabob, and French onion soup—and every single dish was flawless. The tenderloin kabob was melt-in-your-mouth tender, the elk was cooked to perfection, and the French onion soup? Easily one of the best I’ve ever had—rich, flavorful, and topped with a generous, golden layer of cheese that tied everything together beautifully.
I finished with the strawberry crème brûlée, which was the perfect sweet ending to an incredible meal. There wasn’t a single aspect of this experience that wasn’t 5 stars—from the food to the atmosphere and service. Highly recommend to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience. And for all those it pertains to, they go have vegetarian options!
