I’ve eaten here several times and consistently enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. To be sure, the experience is a bit unusual. The restaurant is part of the Shawnee Mission School District’s culinary arts training program, which means that the food is prepared and served by students under the supervision of a professional chef. The restaurant is generally only open on Wednesday night, and the menu changes twice a semester.
However, the food is consistently good. The menu is three-course prix fixe with several options for each course. On my most recent visit, I had an excellent short rib arancini appetizer. The blackened walleye was less impressive, but the white chocolate and berries were one of the best desserts I’ve ever had.
As a teacher, I enjoy the opportunity to work with young people who are learning new skills. But if you tend to lose patience with servers who are learning on the job, this place is not for you.

A breath of freshness. A great experience. Loved supporting the chefs of tomorrow. High school teen staff were extremely polite and eager to make sure you enjoyed your experience. Food was phenomenal. I would recommend to anyone.

My husband and I have gone almost every week this school year to Broadmoor Bistro. The food is delicious and the new space is amazing. The bistro is student run with their chef instructors help and guidance. It is truly a wonderful experience. The students work very hard and take a lot of pride in their work whether they are out front serving diners or in the back cooking. The guest chefs that come in from around the country to mentor the students is a fantastic opportunity for the kids as well as the diners to explore food. We enjoy going just the two of us or with a group of friends. We encourage everyone to check it out! Don’t skip the tour of the new kitchen if you go, it’s incredible!

Amazing food, and equally as amazing service. Joel was a treat to have take of us. He was knowledgeable of the menu and was always making sure we were satisfied with our visit. He even gave us a tour at the end of our meal. Overall a very good experience.

We ordered our sides dishes and baked goods for Thanksgiving dinner from the cuilnary wizards at the Broadmoor Bistro, and all was absolutely delicious! They worked their magic so we could have a relaxing day. All our guests were impressed, and one is looking for a similar program in St. Louis.
