We went to Bollywood Theater and had a great experience! We ordered the Pav Bhaji, Thali, and Paneer Kathi Roll, and really enjoyed majority of the items. The Kathi Roll was the standout—flavorful and filling—while the Pav Bhaji was tasty and comforting. The Thali offered a nice variety, though it felt more like a sampler than a traditional thali.

The ambience was vibrant with fun Bollywood vibes, and the presentation was nice. Prices were a bit on the higher side for the portion sizes, but overall the food was satisfying and worth trying.

An Indian posting honest Review:
Very disappointing experience at Bollywood Theater Restaurant. The food quality was extremely poor and absolutely not worth the price. The vadapav, bhel, and paratha all tasted like they were made from frozen, pre-packaged items rather than freshly prepared. There was no authentic flavor or freshness.

When you visit a restaurant, especially one that promotes Indian street food, you expect fresh and flavorful dishes — not reheated frozen food. Sadly, this place did not meet even basic expectations.

Would not recommend. Definitely not worth the money.

I don’t often leave reviews but Ryan’s level of customer service has to be acknowledged. When I asked for a gluten-free option, Ryan marked up the menu and talked us through options and made wonderful recommendations. He followed up with us and even remembered our names as we were walking out. Ryan is a rare gem. Congrats to Bollywood for having him on staff all these years.

We will be back more often now that we know how many gf options I have!

I would give this place a 3.5 out of 5. Being an Indian myself, I had different expectation. Food was missing that X factor. But was otherwise tasty. This is my 2nd time here after several years when the location was different. I remember the food being much more flavorful last time.

For example, the bhel puri was overpowered by the green chutney. Could use more fresh diced tomato/onion. 3/5

The paneer dish was pleasant, but it seems like the masala lacked something, maybe needed more onion in the tadka? Hard to place. 3/5

The pav bhaji was pretty good, my wife enjoyed it more than I did. 4/5

The South Indian curry chicken was pretty spot on for hitting South Indian flavor. 4/5

Overall, a pleasant experience but needed a little more.

Way cool place. Food was yummy. Enjoyed the space with our friends.
We came around 4:30p on Friday and Omer had plenty of room to sit.

I’ve visited this place a few times before and have always enjoyed it. However, on my most recent visit, I was a bit disappointed — the food felt under-seasoned and the service could use some improvement.

That said, I still love the atmosphere and the outdoor seating. It’s always been my go-to Indian spot whenever I’m in Portland, and I truly hope they refine the food quality because this place has so much potential.

I rarely write a bad review, but since the place called itself the Bollywood Theater, I had high expectations. I had a chance to dine in here (this was highly recommended by a friend) and my experience with the food was sub par. I ordered the Grilled Tikki bowl and to my surprise the chicken cubes were mostly burned and lacked any flavors. The accompanying rice, chickpeas and gravy were quite good though. The place was fairly packed and I think they are know for their appetizers. Maybe I should have stuck to that.

This is Indian food for a hipster American audience.
I was very disappointed with the food. We ordered lamb samosas ($14) and the chicken tikka bowl. ($17) Don’t get me wrong the food was tasty and had a good assortment of textures. But the portions were ridiculously small for the price. Other reviewers mentioned this but I didn’t think it would be THIS small.

And like other reviews have said it isn’t an authentic representation of any Indian food I’ve had before. I think it is more “Indian inspired” than actual Indian cuisine.
All in all I wouldnt eat there again if only because of the price. Both the quantity and quality of the dish did not meet the value of the cost.
I do not recommend eating here.

Go here for the street food…vada pav, pav bhaji, lamb samosa are great and will cure the longing of Mumbai street food. However, the entrees will disappoint people seeking a familiar spicy, tangy taste.
