Although it is off the beaten path, Twisted Tail is worth the drive. The address says Logan, Iowa; however, it is actually located in an unincorporated town called Beebeetown. Don’t worry about getting there — the roads are in great shape and it is a pleasant drive.
We visited there with some good friends last Thursday evening to avoid the wait times that I had read about on Fridays and Saturdays. Even though that meant we missed their popular ribs and prime rib nights, we were able to experience everything else which makes this place special. To begin with, the building at the corner of the only 4-way stop sign for miles around is rustic, yet clean and well-maintained. The interior harkens back to simpler days of the past with antiques, pictures and other great decor. Our waitress was a young gal who was very nice — even though she didn’t know what the daily special would look like. We figured that many of her customers are regulars who don’t need to ask exactly how a dish will be served. Not a problem!
Three of our group elected to try the Hot Beef daily special which was tender slices of beef in a sandwich topped with brown gravy with sides of mashed potatoes and creamed green beans. Good home-style cooking that looked and tasted delicious.
My wife chose the French Dip sandwich which came with onion rings and au jus. The hoagie bun was filled with meat and she pronounced it to be delicious as well. Our only mistake was ordering an appetizer of Onion Rings. Not the onion rings themselves–they were more than fine. But it was a missed opportunity to sample something else as a starter.
Wonderful meal! Highly recommend this place.

Sweet place, great food, good drinks! They have a good drink selection – with Yuengling on tap! The hamburger was absolutely delicious. My husband got the special of the day which was a sirloin melt that was tender and juicy. The kids chicken nuggets were a great deal and good portion. Clean bathrooms too!

Driving through from Omaha to Des Moines and stopped in for dinner. I had the award winning ribs and probably the best ribs I’ve ever had. Fall off the bone good, I got the sauce on the side and it had just the right amount of spice and heat.
Get the peach Moscow mule! You won’t be disappointed.
Husband had the cheeseburger and it was very good as well!

Best ribeye sandwich I’ve ever had! The sweet potato fries are uniquely served with melted marshmallow (yum!). Service was top notch as well. Will be a returning customer for sure. A little drive from Council Bluffs, but the food and service were worth it.

New to town and thought we’d try this place. Got seated quickly but every table got their drinks and orders taken before we were even asked about drinks. We were only asked about drinks after we stood up to leave. The prices seem a bit high but would have loved to actually taste the food to determine if the prices were worth it.

My husband and I are so happy we found this little jewel! Secluded from the busy town bustle, this small bar and grill really impressed us. From the minute we drove up, we were charmed by the cowboy decor. We came around 4, so it wasn’t too busy. The waiter was wonderful. He was attentive, concise, and polite. We had fried mushrooms for the appetizer. Best we have ever had! And the boom sauce was amazing. I had the shrimp plate, hubby had surf and turf. The shrimp are so big, it took four bites each! And so delicious. Hubs steak was incredible, juicy and tender! We will absolutely be going back many times!

This is my fifth trip to the Twisted Tail and the food was great! I try to have something different each time. The wait staff are always super nice. It’s worth stopping in, even if your driving by on the interstate!

Great little saloon in Beebeetown, IA. Official address is in Logan. Closest bigger town is Missouri Valley a bit west, and is North if Council Bluffs maybe 1/2hr or so.
It may be in the middle of no where, but it is quite nice inside, has a great menu, and from what we had, and what we’ve heard from others, the food is good. Our experience was great staff as well. Not much more you could ask for. It’s a popular stop for motorcycles, because you have have a nice trip through the scenic Loess (pronounced “Luss”) Hills, and stop for your lunch or dinner. But, make no mistake, this little place in the middle or nowhere will have good service, great food, and the atmosphere and ambiance are also good. It feels more like a trendy chain bar and grill, but with a small home town feel. Just didn’t have anything to complain about at all. We’ll be back sometime when we are in the area, and you should give it a try. Even if you don’t live close (we don’t either), it’s a nice scenic drive to get there on a casual Saturday or Sunday drive. We recommend you try it.
