Here is the dialog:
Me: Well, if you can’t, can you let me know?
Her: It looks like you had enough on your card, it all went through.
Me: I know I had enough, but I didn’t want it all ran on the card.
Then I walked away.
Her: Mam, you need to sign that receipt.
Me: No, I don’t. It went through.
Her: Man, you need to get back here and sign that receipt. I need that receipt.
Me: You actually do not need my signature (however, I walked back and signed it). During this time, another lady (I am assuming a manager???) came over and said:
“Wait, wait, wait. What is going on here.”
Me: I asked her if she could split my payment with card and cash, but she doesn’t know how.
Manager: No, she doesn’t. She’s new.
Me: So, couldn’t she ask?
Manager: No, she couldn’t. I was busy.
Me: Wait, what? You were busy, so she couldn’t say, ‘hold on, let me ask’?
Manager: No, and how dare you talk to her like that……she’s new….
Me: You’re joking, right?
I have no idea what was said after that- she kept talking as I walked away. As I am waiting on my food, she yells to me that they can just refund me. I said, it was already paid for. Then she said: How dare you talk to a young girl like that.
Another lady (who was very nice), came out and hands me cash. I continue to stand there because I did not ask for a refund, nor did they tell me they were not going to serve me. They thought they would “out-smart” me? I’m not sure.
When I finally pick up my cash, I notice it was $3.50 short. I asked the “nice” manager, “what am I paying for?”
Her: We just refunded you the amount you paid.
Me: No, I paid $19.49.
Her: I just voided your charge.
Me: No, I paid $19.49.
She looked confused, walked over to the cash register, then came back with the $3.50.
Her: Oh, this was for the drink you ordered. Do you have a drink?
Me: No. In fact, I asked her to cancel the drink before I even paid.
She hands me the cash, and I walk out. A lot of drama.
Whether or not I am in the right, here’s what I learned. That “so-called” manager and Fuddruckers are doing that “young girl” a disservice by not training her properly, or making her feel like she cannot ask a question. She was in the middle because she “didn’t know how,” was too afraid to ask, or just didn’t care. I will not be the only one asking for something different. I didn’t get upset because the girl didn’t know how to run two different payment methods or that she was new. I got upset because of the communication. Customer service is a tough job. If you cannot deal with the public or a request (a simple one at that), then you are in the wrong field. A simple, “I am new,” “hold on one second, let me ask,” or, “no, we cannot do that here” would have been sufficient. Instead, it was taken by a manager who refused to do her job and help or say, “I’m sorry, I was busy. Let me fix that for you.”
The restaurant was clean and had a small little arcade area. The service was great too.
We honestly can’t wait to come back to Montana just to eat here. I’m a Burger Aficionado and this place has burgers exactly the way they should be. High quality beef, great bun, and lots of options for toppings equal perfection.
We will definetly return.
Huge shoutout to the kind gentleman who was clearing tables & cleaning on Saturday. He was very friendly, helpful, and kind. He really seems like a wonderful asset to the Fuddruckers team!
