A simple, unassuming place with nice service and good food. Stopped here for a late lunch after visiting Luray Caverns. The staff were very friendly and our waitress was kind and thoughtful. We enjoyed everything, but the garlic knots were really our favorite (and they gave so many!) and served with a warm marinara sauce. We also had onion rings and a veggie pizza, which were both crispy and satisfying, with extra sauces given at no charge. Everything was piping hot and seemed freshly made. We really enjoyed ourselves.

Those garlic knots melt on your mouth! I’m talking about the best freaking knots I’ve ever had in my life! Just wow! The lasagna was better than any 5 star restaurant I’ve been in! Fantastic! The meatballs were amazing! Take that little bread and sop up that red sauce! If I lived here I would eat here weekly! Hats off to you guys! I’m picky and usually complain….not here!! 10/10!!

We loved the garlic knots! Buttery and garlicky and piping hot and tomato sauce to dip it in was has a fresh tomato flavor. The margherita pizza had fresh mozerella and basil atop a crispy crust with the perfect amount of crunch and chew. The seafood linguine was full of mussels and squid but lacked much clam but it didn’t stop us from devouring the whole thing. We couldn’t leave without trying the ice cream which was equally as good as the entire dinner. Can’t wait to return!

I think my order was prepped in Italy and shipped over. It took sooooooooooo long! After all of that, it was WRONG! The ingredients were not on the pizza that were listed on the menu! The salad (wait, two slices of disgusting tomato and 5 pieces of cheese) was clearly NOT living up to the price!

My fiance, mom, and I went here while on vacation. We got the garlic knots as an appetizer. My mom got the eggplant parmesan with spaghetti which she liked even though the eggplant didn’t seem breaded. My fiance got the chicken parmesan with penne pasta which he liked. I got the shrimp fettuccine alfredo which I loved. My only complaint was that the milkshakes that we got were kind of runny.

Our visit at Il Vesuvio was nothing special. When we first entered the restaurant it was difficult to tell if we were supposed to seat our selves or wait to be seated as it was a tiny space in the doorway for us and no sign saying otherwise. Once our waitress asked us for our party number, she then allowed us to pick our own seat (which is something I don’t like anywhere I go, but it was especially strange here as there was only two tables available in the small dining area).
She asked us if we were ready to order as soon as we picked our seats, and when we were not ready, she walked away without getting a drink order.
When the food came out it was good, but not worth visiting again.

Nice meal!
On the way back from Luray, we made a late lunch stop at this Italian eatery. The ambience was good. The staffs were helpful and attentive. We placed the order for French Fries and Hawaiin Pizza. All the items we tasted were delicious.

Il Vesuvio offers a solid dining option in Luray, especially considering the town’s limited restaurant choices. The restaurant features small indoor seating and a modest enclosed outdoor area, which can feel a bit tight but still offers a comfortable space to enjoy a meal.
The menu is impressively large, covering everything from pizza and pasta to subs and more. Overall, the food was good, with the garlic knots standing out—they were flavorful and served in a decent portion. Prices, however, felt a bit high for what you get.
For dessert, I tried the croissant ice cream sandwich. While the ice cream itself was tasty, the croissant was toasted more than I prefer and didn’t pair well flavor-wise for me personally.
If you’re in Luray and looking for a casual spot with a variety of Italian-American dishes, Il Vesuvio is worth considering. Just be prepared for slightly elevated prices.

Delightful Italian restaurant in downtown Luray. Everyone in our group was pleased with their meals. Easy accessibility, plenty of parking and clean restrooms. They were extremely busy, but the cooks and waitresses staff were very efficient.

We went to this restaurant for dinner last night and ended up splitting an antipasto and a small pizza called The Works. Both were tasty. A gentleman next to us had the Garlic Knots and he was overwhelmed by the size of the portion, so he “forced” us to try them, so we each had one and they too were good tasting. The menu is a pretty good size, so there are several good options. Our server Chasidy was nice and she did a good job.
Overall, we were happy with our decision to go here.
