Reviews
Nestled on the cozy corner of North Allen Avenue and Villa in East Pasadena (488 N Allen Ave, to be exact), Delizie Romane is the neighborhood bakery that’s got me plotting daily detours from my Old Town routine. This family-owned Italian gem, a fresh arrival that’s already the talk of Reddit and Yelp, channels the soul of a Roman fornaio right into the heart of SoCal. Opened just months ago, it’s the kind of spot where locals swap stories over frothy cappuccinos, and the air hums with the chatter of Italian expats feeling right at home. Open daily from early morning till evening, with a sleek cafe setup spilling onto a welcoming patio – think communal tables under string lights, perfect for soaking up that Pasadena sunshine while pretending you’re on a Trastevere stroll. The vibe? Warm, unpretentious, and utterly authentic, like stumbling into Nonna’s kitchen after a wrong turn in the Eternal City.
But let’s talk temptations, because oh, the pastries here are poetry in dough form. Start with the **bomboloni** – these pillowy, sugar-dusted orbs of joy are a far cry from the sad, store-bought imposters. Freshly fried to golden perfection, each bite unleashes a molten core of velvety custard or Nutella that oozes like liquid gold, balanced by a crisp shell that shatters into sweet oblivion. At around $4 a pop, they’re dangerously addictive; I polished off two (okay, three) with a perfectly pulled espresso, and suddenly, my morning commute felt like a luxury vacation. Reviewers on Reddit are obsessed, calling them “better than Italy” – high praise, but I get it. They’re the ultimate grab-and-go for a hike up Eaton Canyon or a lazy picnic in the Arroyo.
Then, the **Black Forest cake** – a towering masterpiece of chocolate decadence that had me weak at the knees. Layers of moist, fudgy devil’s food cake embrace tart cherries soaked in kirsch, all crowned with clouds of whipped cream and shaved chocolate that flakes like fresh snow. It’s not cloyingly sweet; the boozy fruit cuts through with elegant sharpness, evoking those misty Black Forest afternoons (minus the hike). Sliced generously for $8, it’s ideal for sharing – or not – and pairs divinely with their house-blend latte. In a city of fusion trends, this classic German-Italian hybrid shines as a testament to tradition, with the bakery’s Roman roots ensuring every element is handmade with love.
Beyond these stars, the lineup dazzles: fluffy maritozzi buns stuffed with whipped cream, silky tiramisu by the slice, and savory pinsa Romana that’s crispy-edged and chewy-hearted, topped with prosciutto or seasonal veggies. Sandwiches like the Capri (fresh pesto on focaccia) make lunch a revelation, and they’ve even got gluten-free nods for the crew. The staff? Effusively welcoming, dishing out recommendations in lilting accents that make you feel like family. Prices are refreshingly fair – no tourist traps here – and the quality screams imported expertise without the import fees.
In Pasadena’s bakery scene, where chains lurk around every corner, Delizie Romane is the beating heart of authentic neighborhood charm. It’s more than a bakery; it’s a portal to Italy’s dolce vita, fueling my love for this Crown City one bombolone at a time. I’ve dragged friends here twice already, and we’re hooked – plotting our next pinsa feast. If you’re anywhere near the 210, swerve now. This isn’t just a review; it’s a love letter. Cin cin to more mornings like this!
I had thought i did a review , after i went there about a month and half ago. I ordered a few things , the pizza was yummie ( tho i like it ) baked more crispy, the bread dough wasn’t baked enough so had her bake it longer and it was yum. And the other items were pretty good too. But i really want to try 2 pastries they have , but they are always sold out when i go. I need to try and go by 9 a.m. !!! But doubt that will ever happen , lol. ( migraine sufferer ) Tho i like my cappuccino stronger , but she made me another cafe drink which was alot better , but it’s a very cute place and the owners are very friendly
We are so lucky to be able to walk here multiple times a week and always on the weekends.
Everyone that works there is always welcoming and warm. We will continue to frequent Delizie as often as possible.

On Allen by Villa St, right across by the Valero gas station.
Pasta & foccicia bread do take 15 min because it’s made fresh to order. They have yummy homemade pastries like muffins and tiramisu that we enjoyed. Indoor dining.
Warm service and family owned business!
