Oh lord, what a great place. This is as real as it gets. Simple menu, great food and amazing staff. The bald guy was super friendly and welcoming, had a nice chat with him about coming from Germany. Even though the beef sandwich is not 100% my personal taste I can recommend to try it regardless. Definitely a place you must visit while in Chicago. We love the authentic atmosphere, the Chicago dog and the fries. Obviously had to buy a shirt to bring home. Keep it real, one love.

I came here with a friend because of the show The Bear. The inside has photographs of many, many famous people who have visited this establishment. As far as cleanliness goes, I would say it is passable. We did eat in the restaurant at a large communal table in the back room. The ordering line moves very quickly and there is a sign warning you to know what you are going to order. When you get to the front, it says cash only but that is apparently for the prices on the menu. Several people ahead of us used credit cards but the price was a little higher. The service was very fast and there is a definite Chicago vibe. The spicy Italian beef sandwich was good but I would not say exceptional. The onion rings were also good, but not exceptional. With the low prices and the atmosphere, it’s definitely worth a visit!

Wow. All I can say. Lives up to its reputation. Hot dog had perfect snap. The fries were salty crispy good. Got my Italian beef “hot and wet.” So dunked in the au jus and topped with gardenia. The long communal table completes the local vibe – everyone eats together.

I arrived around 10:30am so naturally there was no line. I ordered the Italian beef with peppers but I wasn’t given the option of dry, wet, or juicy and they automatically served it juicy. The beef itself was good quality but as others have mentioned, it made the bread overly soggy. I’d recommend ordering it wet to keep the flavour without soaking the bread. The service was fast and no-fuss.

I was relieved to see the line was indoors so no need to wait out in the cold. The line was well worth the wait as it went by pretty quickly and the communal seating meant there was not much of a wait for a seat.
The hot beef sandwich was amazing and comforting. The cheese fries were also delicious!
Just a quick tip:bring cash for a faster process and a bit of savings, although they do take card and have an atm if you don’t have cash available.

Stopped by to try the famous Italian beef, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I went with the “hot and wet” juicy, flavorful, and packed with that classic Chicago character. The fries were crispy and salty, the perfect side.
The atmosphere is gritty and authentic… it really feels like stepping into a scene from The Bear. Service was quick and friendly, and even with the line, things moved fast. A true Chicago institution and absolutely worth the visit.

Yes, there’s a long line — but it’s absolutely worth it. If you get there a little before noon, the wait isn’t too bad (at least that was my experience).
The moment you step inside, it genuinely feels like you’ve walked into an episode of The Bear. The atmosphere is authentic, the energy is great, and the food is truly outstanding. Everyone around me was saying the same thing: it’s that good.
Highly recommended.

Came here because one family member is a big fan of “The Bear”. Literal hole in the wall establishment, limited seating, and hot as heck inside during a Chicago summer. Portable AC unit to try to help things, but honestly, I just wondered how the guys could keep making sandwiches over a hot grill all day long.
Well, the result is…amazing. Get “The Bear” an Italian beef sandwich with sweet and hot pepper combo. It was delicious and we have yet to find any remotely plausible substitute here in LA.
There is just one nod to the famous tie….a poster of “The Bear” on the wall.

We stopped in because my friend’s a big fan of The Bear, and this place totally delivered. The sandwiches were super tasty, the vibe was exactly what you’d expect, and the service was great. We even walked out with a T-shirt, hah. Great quick stop if you’re in the area.

After coming to Chicago multiple times, it was time to try the infamous Italian beef sandwich. We took our time talking to locals and researching to find the perfect location to try it. The consensus hands down was Mr. Beef so we made the trek over. The staff were super friendly. We were impressed with how quick they were, they got a great system down. We did end up getting sweet and hot peppers on our wet Italian beef. Okay, first, whoa, prepare to use all 10 fingers on this. It’s definitely messy! The beef was juicy for sure but overall, we weren’t 100% in love with the sandwich. While I’ll bet this is one of the best places to have, we thought the concept was overrated. In n Out to LA is Italian Beef to Chicago. Get it. Got it. Tried it.
