I will never forget my visit to Tom & Joe’s. I decided to take my two girls out to breakfast, and any dad knows that taking a baby and a three year old out by yourself is not the easiest thing to do. We had about a 15 minute wait because the place was so busy, but it was well worth the wait.

Once we were seated, the service was outstanding, and the food was absolutely top shelf. After we finished eating, George Batrus came over and let me know that a table next to us had paid for our bill. I was completely shocked and incredibly grateful. It is a moment I will never forget.

George, you are running a truly great restaurant, and you should be very proud.

I am in town from Pittsburgh and stopped in by chance. I love good diners, and Tom and Joe’s is fantastic. The staff are really friendly and the service was excellent. The food was outstanding, and the diner itself is very old school/vintage. Loved it!

Me and my wife eat there about two or three times a month and they have the ABSOLUTE BEST breakfast around. I’m in a wheelchair and they go above and beyond to make sure I’m comfortable and have a place to sit and eat. The staff/owners are there to help me in and out of the building. My coffee is never empty and the food is excellent .
I highly recommend T&J’s

I counted down the days, like waiting for Christmas, to get to Altoona. I couldn’t wait to try this slice of good old-fashioned Real American nostalgia. Boy was I certainly not disappointed. I kept waiting for my Pa Pa and his buddies to walk in. Of course, they’ve all been gone for decades now. What I’m trying to say is, there just ain’t enough of this stuff around anymore. My stomach got so excited that it persuaded my mouth to start eating before I remembered to take pictures of my food. All I can say is that you have to have some scrapple, lots of creamed chipped beef, plenty of rye toast to dip in it, home fries, and plenty of eggs any way you like. I prefer over easy. It was fabulous, and I had exceptional service from a real, friendly, smart waitress who knows how to juggle 15 tasks and make conversation with all ages while smiling and cracking a joke or two. The cooks were exactly that…people who cook food the way we like it and serve it up hot and fresh. None of that fancy apron-don’t wanna get a stain stuff. The food is great, but there is far more to taking a person back in time. Thanks to all the great people here who keep more than just an old brick building open. They keep its spirit alive and well. I’ll be back, so save me some.

This establishment started in 1933. The service and the staff were absolutely fantastic. The food was excellent and way more than I could eat. I highly recommend if you haven’t tried this place yet, you don’t know what you’re missing.

First time having breakfast at T&J’s. It was a great experience, good food and old school diner. Expect there to be a waiting line to get a seat. Service was EXCELLENT as well. We’ll be back!

Very similar to other experiences. Waited awhile outside. Waited a long time inside while people coming in after us were treated better, and had finished eating before our food came out. We didn’t have complicated orders and only 2 in our party. The food was good but we couldn’t get the waitress to bid us the time of day for refill on drinks or to get the check. She even stole my pen after I had to use my own to fill out the tip section on the reciept. Maybe better experiences on less busy times ‍♀️.
