My lovely wife and I were heading to Millers Ale House for lunch. Mission BBQ was right next door. I was vaguely familiar with the brand, so we decided to try them instead. Pulling up to park I saw a row of empty reserved parking spaces with little white signs, which I figured were for take out, like so many other restaurants do. But NO! They were spaces reserved for veterans! I’m a vet, but I didn’t want to use one of those spots because there’s always someone more deserving than I.
After entering I went to the restroom to wash may hands. The restrooms are marked WOMEN for women, and LATRINE for non-women. That’s a nice touch to make an old vet feel at home.
Ordering is done at the counter, like our local 4 Rivers restaurants, except the sides at 4 Rivers are in a Bain Marie steam table on the front line, while Mission BBQ prepares the sides to order in the kitchen. A lovely young lady name Mayri took our order. She was super helpful, explaining the menu and offering suggestions. I chose the two-meat sampler, and my wife ordered the smoke chicken half.
We sat at a table and admired the thousands of military and first responder photos and memorabilia on the walls. My name was called to pick up our food from the front counter after about 10 minutes, which is fairly quick in my book.
My brisket and jalapeño sausage was good, and the fries are cut fresh a la Five Guys. My wife, likewise, really enjoyed her chicken.
Another lovely young lady named Hailey kept checking on us and all the other diners, and not in a cursory, semi-annoying way like they do at Olive Garden and Millers. Hailey’s helpfulness was 100% genuine. Near the end of our meal Hailey asked me if she could give us a complimentary cherry cheesecake to thank me for my service. Lucky I wore my “USAF We Own The Skies” ball cap. Who could turn down such an offer? Not fat boy here. With perfect timing Hailey arrived about 5 minutes later with a cute little cheesecake on a tray. She had written “Thank You For Your Service” on the tray liner. Awwww. She is soooo sweet!
While we nibbled on our cheesecake, which was yummy, I Googled the Mission BBQ back story. What a great story. 150 restaurants, but this was the first one I saw. Now I know there are two within a short drive from my home, so we will be going to them soon. No more 4 Rivers for us–although John Rivers story is amazing too. What a philanthropist he has become. Go John!

Mission BBQ of Lady Lake, was an amazing experience! From the moment we walked in, the service was excellent and made us feel right at home. The food was outstanding—full of flavor and truly unique styles you won’t find just anywhere. Everything was fresh, creative, and absolutely delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back again. Highly recommend! Both my husband and son are military, my son currently active duty in the navy
I got the 2 meat platter with brisket and turkey. My hubby got the same except he got a jalapeno sausage instead of turkey. We both got fries which are gluten-free, YAY! We both loved our food, so yummy! Glad thr constantly is there. Will be back!
The cashier and the prep associate were both very friendly and professional.
I got the 3 meat sampler: turkey, pork, and chicken with fries and a side garden salad.
I also love the Georgia mustard sauce.
I chose to eat on the patio and a third associate checked on me twice to make sure I had all the sauces I wanted and to ask what else I needed.
The ambience could be improved by resetting the outside lights timer so the lights come on when it gets dark.
I ate mostly in the dark. 1/2 the lights came on at 7pm, but the railing lights that supply light to the tables never did.
We had received an envelope on our previous trip and in it was a offer for a free item.
Our prize was an free XL which is for free side dish and beverage.
The restaurant was very crowded and the line to order was long.
The staff is always very friendly, respectful and accommodating.
They apologized for the wait, which despite how busy they were was not too long.
Our order was on point. Delicious and plentiful.
In fact the sandwich meat was too much for my wife so she brought some home
Pulled chicken was great. Bansa with brisket and mac and cheese sides were outstanding.
The hotels stopped by a few times to check on us.
When she found out I was retired law enforcement she brought over a cherry cheesecake on the house and wrote on brown paper on the tray “thank you for your service sir.”
What a nice gesture.
I love all they do for veterans and first responders.
We love this restaurant and have told many others about our positive experiences at all Mission BBQs we visit both in Florida and in New Jersey.
