Recommended! One of my friends told me this is one of the best BBQ house in town and sure it is! Nice and clean dining area. It’s also a good pub which I’m pretty sure(will come here to try their drinks the next time) Those sausages are amazing! Well flavoured, and juicy. Wings are little bit too dry, but I like the house barbecue sause. The roast chicken and ribs, I would strongly recommend! Tender and rich flavour. My friend loves the cheesy corn! It’s also the must try side dish for sure! Overall, worth the try!

Hog Shack Cook House is an incredible spot for BBQ. The meats are absolutely amazing—perfectly cooked and so tender they’re truly fall-off-the-bone good. The cornbread was also delicious and honestly one of the best I’ve had anywhere in the Lower Mainland.

The atmosphere is super cozy, especially with its location in Steveston Village right by the water. Inside, the restaurant has a beautiful collection of plants that adds a really warm, welcoming vibe. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy some great food after walking around the waterfront.

Highly recommend if you’re in the area and craving great

Oh my God! I’m honestly wondering why I didn’t try this place sooner! After living in Steveston for nine months, I finally had an early dinner here — and wowwwww!
Everything was fantastic, and I will definitely be coming back (and bringing all my carnivore/keto friends with me!).
The lady who served us was also amazing — friendly, attentive, and made the experience even better.
Such a great find!

They are trying I think.

I made the mistake of ordering an extra half pound of beef brisket thinking the brisket platter probably wouldn’t be enough, but it was plenty.

Brisket was pretty lean and dry, and I found myself relying on the cheesy corn to get enough moisture to get it down my neck. Might have been a combo of over cooking and lack of even marbling. I also felt like the seasoning didn’t penetrate the meat. Cornbread was good though.

Kids didn’t have anything particularly outstanding to mention about the pasta or the garlic prawns. Apparently the prawns were a 4/5 but the bread that it came came with was apparently pretty tough.

Pulled pork sandwich was apparently ok, but nothing special or outstanding.

Service wasn’t horrendous, but I felt like minimal effort to keep smiles on their faces. Just part time jobs for most of them I guess

My wife and I spent the long weekend in Vancouver, BC area and wanted to come and try this well decorated pitmaster’s restaurant.
Service was attentive and food was timely.
The owner gave us some great recommends and we ate very well.
While some folks think sides are a “throw away” at a BBQ joint, I actually believe they show an important point of view with what goes well with their food and if they don’t care, they probably don’t care about their mains.
Not the case here. Cole slaw is a creamy style that was nicely dressed and flavored and still had crunch and texture. The cheesy corn was also very good and was nicely balanced. The Brussel Sprouts were also spot on – nicely flavored as well as balanced. It wasn’t oversweeted to hide the natural bitterness of the sprouts, so you got a nice texture and bite. The corn bread was very tasty and had great texture.
The pitmaster makes his own sausages and while they had a flight offering, we opted to try just one style and was very good flavors and texture.
The crab hush puppies were very tasty, served with a nice dipping sauce. The Apricot Glazed pork belly…. was really really good. The pitmaster was doing some testing for a featured event they do in May and this should be a hit. My wife is not a sweet and savory mixed together type of person, yet was quite surprised at how well balanced they were. You tasted the pork belly first, then got a nice subtle fruit flavor and sweetness.
They have several beers on tap and the pitmaster served me a very refreshing whit beer that was very clean and balanced with the meal.
If I had to give a complaint…. the customer writing this review needed a bigger appetite to try even more items. I guess that means we have to come back again, which we will.
It’s a nice area for a little tourism hang with lots of shops.
Do yourself a foodie favor and come by and enjoy the food. And if you do a little BBQing in the back yard, the pitmaster sells his sauce and a few rubs.

OMG! The door was only halfway open when someone came flying over to greet us and seat us. Water appeared almost right away. We were given time to peruse the substantial menu. The waitress is just wonderful. She explained the different entrees, and we finally decided on a brisket sandwich and the brisket/pulled pork combo. Man, the food was excellent. The pics speak for themselves.

I rarely leave anything less than a 5 star (often don’t review at all) as I appreciate the challenge of the food service industry. I guess I hope that management sees this review as a call to be better. My experience at hog shack as far as service goes was great. That being said, I was very disappointed by the food. The food was not fresh, it was lukewarm and had a reheated vibe to it. I may have been able to overlook the quality if they gave more food but the portions themselves were not great either, and the icing on the cake was the price. Having small quantities of mediocre food for an expensive price just does not cut it. This was consensus among the 10 or so folk that were with me. I hope this place puts more effort into the quality so future customers have a better experience.

It’s a smoked meat restaurant with what you’d expect. It’s delicious and decent size portion for what we ordered (the Johnson plate). Decent BBQ sauce, definitely Carolina style because of the vinegar, not my thing but it’s pretty good. I prefer Memphis or Texan, more smoke and mesquite. Nonetheless, nice meat, nice pork, nice all around flavour. We took takeout and it was easy to transport. Restaurant definitely needs wetnaps for takeout customers, especially if my only tip option starts at 15%, which even with takeout I do. I hope the kitchen gets a decent tip out on takeout orders. The sides were okay, nothing to write home about, but they are sides for a reason. The cornbread and the coleslaw are what we had. Again, I’m here for the smoked meat.

Also please note portion was bigger, I was just ravenous.

I got the dino rib since the waitress lady recommended it. The sweet potato fries were perfectly cooked; the coleslaw was nicely seasoned but a bit heavy with mayo. About the meat, good amount of seasoning, good sauce, but the rib wasn’t cooked enough to let the connective tissue melt. I had a hard time trying to separate the meat from the bones, and I KNEW the part close to the bone is the most delicious… Truly a pity.

Overall I managed to cut off and eat 85% of the rib. Maybe I should have held it like a barbarian, but well, I was wearing a white shirt at the moment. Maybe next time I can try the brisket and be less messy.

Smokehouse platter- brisket, pulled pork, cheesey corn, yam fries and dark lager. The brisket was a little dry and salty but improved with the self applied BBQ sauce. The pulled pork was very nicely spiced and moist. Can’t go wrong with cheesey corn and yam fries are always a treat. Nice selection of draught beer at an OK price. The platter was a little pricey but ample servings. Friendly service too.
