Akdeniz is an easy 10/10. I came in late, about half an hour before closing. I wanted the Iskender, but they were out of doner. They swapped in Adana kebab instead and it was unbelievable. Tender, flavorful, easily one of the best kebabs I’ve ever had. The tomato sauce with the yogurt and their fresh bread made the dish incredible.

My father got the lamb shank but returned it because it was too tough. He ended up getting the iskender like me, and loved it.

The service was good too. Even late at night the staff were warm and welcoming, and I never felt like they were rushing me out. Prices are reasonable for New York, especially considering the quality and how big the portions are.

My wife and I had the Mediterranean salad, mixed grill, and okra.
The okra was good, and the salad was delicious. I ordered the mixed grill to try different types of kebabs — the lamb chop was excellent, but the lamb and chicken kebabs were a bit hard and not very tender. Overall, I’d rate the food as medium.

For dessert, we had tea and baklava, which were both good. The staff were friendly and professional.

However, three things to note:

1. They charged for soda refills, which most restaurants don’t.
2. A 20% service charge was automatically added to the bill for just two people — something that’s not very common. So be sure to check your bill carefully.
3.An extra 3% charged for using credit card.i see this for the first time.

Nice Mediterranean spot, might want a reservation as it is a bit small. Excellent dessert selections and pastries. We enjoyed the calamari, hummus, and the mixed grill and decided the lamb chops were the best part. All of it was delicious but I would order just lamb chops next time, the mixed grill is a nice way to try several meats. The hummus and pita were very good as was the calamari and the sauce it was served with was very nice as well.

Great place fora romantic dinner. Service was friendly with comfortable and romantic setting. Started with some tasty apps that were accompanied by some warm pita. My wife had lamb over eggplant and I had the gyro. Her dish seemed small but mine was overloaded with meat. We eventually just shared to make sure we didn’t leave hungry.

We had lunch for a party of three. As opposed to most other restaurants in midtown, there was no lunch menu. We had the lamb Adana, Sultan’s Delight and Falafel platter, humus and baba appetizers and baklava dessert. Everything was good especially the dessert.

Akdeniz (ahk-deniece) had a wonderful atmosphere, and even better service. The food was amazing – my companions and I had three different types of lamb, and we were thrilled with how tender and succulent the lamb was, yet how different the flavors of each dish were. I honestly couldn’t pick a favorite entree. The bread and appetizers were lovely as well: the baba ghanoush had a pleasantly smoky flavor, and the hummus was excellent. Strongly recommend this eatery for special occasions, a dinner date, or even brunch with friends. The service and food will thrill you, and the decor – or if you dine upstairs, the view – will delight you. Thank you to our server José, who was an absolute gem.

I would come back here but only for the kunefe. It is SO good. Lamb skew is also cooked to perfection. But other dishes are mediocre. Especially the bread seems like from Costco.

I had their puree of lentil soup, which was pleasing. For my main course I had their mixed meze platter. It included four of them including hummus, eggplant, a yogurt mixture, and baba ganouch. They offer five meze, but I chose to skip the spicy one in favor of more baba ganouch, which was my favorite, and what I thought was the most flavorful of the four. The back part of
the restaurant was the most attractive, as seen in my
picture of it.
On another dine there I had a single order of baba ganouch ($11) which was followed by my main course of Turkish meatballs ($25). They are a combination of lamb and beef which was moist, tasty and delicious. On another visit there, a Sunday, the meatballs were overly salty and a little burned (blackened). The menu does not state that the meatballs come with two vegetables. Since they do, the waiter should have the courtesy to state that it comes with two vegetables and offer an alternative if you desire. My waiter did not do that, he just brought out two accompanying vegetables of the kitchen’s choice. I tried their Lamb Adana on another visit there, it was spicy. I do not care for spicy food. Their gyro was bland and very dry.

My Go-To Mediterranean Spot Never Lets Me Down

Been coming to Akdeniz for ages now and honestly can’t fault it. The chicken chops are my usual order, always spot on. My mate swears by the calf liver which sounds grim but he’s onto something there.
Prices are fair and everything tastes proper fresh. Whenever my family’s in the area, we end up here because it just works for everyone. Kids go straight for the fish, wife always gets the Greek salad (she’s predictable like that), and obviously we all fight over the baklava at the end.

Staff is very professional too you can tell they actually give a toss about the food they’re putting out. Nothing revolutionary happening here, just good Mediterranean grub done right. That’s why I keep going back really.

Underrated spot in midtown. We got calamari salad, shrimp sautee, and sultan’s delight. All of the meat was cooked perfectly (not too dry!) and flavored delightfully. The star of the show was the dessert! We loved the triangle baklava ice cream cake, every layer was so delicious, highly recommend!
