The Food:
Frog Legs: My first time trying them. They were okay, but my wife (who is a professional chef) noted they were severely under-seasoned.
Pimento Burger: Completely bland. It tasted like there wasn’t a grain of salt on the meat. I only finished it because I was hungry.
Chicken Sandwich: This was the biggest letdown. It was tough, overcooked, and genuinely awful. Food came with no sauce whatsoever, and servers are simply not around to help. We paid extra for Mac and cheese, which seemingly came straight from a freezer, temperature and all. After flagging down a food runner, before we got a word out she asked if it was cold. Evidently- this is not the first time it has been an issue.
The service was well below average. My drink sat empty for over 10 minutes. Once our mains arrived, we were never offered condiments, and our server vanished completely. The only thing on the table is pickled hot peppers, salt and pepper, and sugar. We didn’t see them again until we were finished with our meal, leaving us no opportunity to address the issues with the dry, bland food.
Having had the frog legs to start, we needed extra napkins and fresh silverware, besides the two single napkin rollups we were supplied. We had to take two new ones off of another table to receive these as we never saw our server again.
To top it off, the prices on the menu didn’t even match what we were charged. Between the poor execution in the kitchen and the absent service, we will not be returning. I’ve truly never experienced anything quite like this. Especially not for a 100 dollars. Outragous.
I visited with my family, as you can see in the photos we all ordered something different. Everything was pretty good with the exception of the fried chicken, I don’t know how you screw up fried chicken, but it was bad. It was so bad I couldn’t even eat, it was like eating Beef jerky. It was extremely overcooked. There was little meat even on the bone because it had been so severely over cooked.
Everyone else in our group really enjoyed their meals. The sweet tea was amazing. Our servers name was Lois. And she was superb. Gonna have to return again. I’ll re-order the fried chicken and see if that was just a one night thing or the chef really can’t cook chicken.
Love the nostalgia of the place, but when you go, make sure you have time to explore the area .
I would like to recognize Leigh for her kind, patient, much appreciated service at our table. She guided us through the menu choices (some were unfamiliar) and her personality definitely added to our wonderful dining experience. Thank you Leigh. I’m certain we will see you again!!!
Arrived early afternoon, not busy at all. Seated immediately but it was at least 5 minutes before the waitress approached, said she’d be right back, went and looked at the empty table of customerts who just left, went to chat with other wait staff and then returned.
Baked potato soup was listed on the specials board. “No soup” was the answer. Okay we were sort of looking forward to tasting that but…. we ordered.
What no one told us was their power had gone down. Until the food arrived.
Food was mediocre and barely warm. The person who had the pimento burger said it was good but the fries were dreadful.
No one came and offered to refill drinks. Eventually the waitress came with a bill. WE asked about desert but her “enthusiasm” didn’t encourage anyone to order any more food.
I went to pay the bill. Stood waiting at the desk. Finally caught the eye of another waitress who was chatting with someone. She headed over with the words “only if you have cash – the power is down.” Fortunately another member of the staff said the terminal was working for cards.
What a DREADFUL experience. Would we go there again? Unlikely. Mediocre food and waitstaff who either don’t care about customers or don’t want to be there.
We had heard good things about this place….how on earth is that possible
