Updated 2.10.26: First time in since I’ve stopped eating meat. I ordered a veggie bowl and my roommate got the sweet barbacoa burrito. I enjoyed my fresh veggie bowl and having both pinto and black beans and adding the fresh corn salsa was a game changer. I left full and satisfied. Just fyi burritos are huge and are bound to have leftovers!
It was lunch time when we arrived and the ambiance reflected that as many tables were taken, however when I walked up to order food there was no wait and we easily found a table. I was asked if I was willing to take a survey for free drinks with our meal and I said of course! Survey was simple and easy and completed it right there at the register. All the staff were nice and stayed on task–no one just standing there like some places.

I have been a loyal Cafe Rio customer for years, and I continue to come back to this location because of the people. Over time, I have gotten to know many of the employees by name, which speaks to how often I visit. I typically eat here three to four times per week, and the team consistently does an excellent job preparing my bowls. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and one of the main reasons I remain such a dedicated customer.
That said, the cleanliness and overall atmosphere at this location could use improvement. Compared to the newer State Line location, this restaurant feels less maintained. The State Line location has a brighter interior, a fresher feel, and a noticeably cleaner environment.
Unfortunately, the bathrooms at the Coeur d’Alene location are frequently messy and often out of paper towels, which detracts from the overall experience. While I truly appreciate the staff and the quality of the food, I hope to see improvements in cleanliness and upkeep moving forward.

I wanna give 0 stars. Their meat portion for the price is bull crap. They rip you off. I got 4 chopped peaces of chicken for a 20 lbs salad (23 dollar salad). Told me it’s correct as it’s the size of a tiny salsa side… the kid size salsa cup for reference…. Anyway. Spend your money elsewhere. Place is a rip off

The brunette girl working the line at 12:55 today didn’t ask if I wanted rice and dumped a ton into my burrito & gave me a tiny tiny portion of meat. Couldn’t even eat it because it was 90% rice and 10% meat. For a $14 burrito you’d think they’d take the time to pay attention to what clients want in their food. Won’t be going back anymore & I frequent this place regularly. Hope someone takes her off the line.

Makes me really sad to write this, but every experience here has been a bad one in the last 4 years that we’ve visited. It makes me sad to see how far downhill Cafe Rio has gone since it’s early days. I used to eat all the time at their second ever location (Skyline in SLC) starting in 2002 since we used to live so close to them and it was always so fresh and fast and on point. But the CDA location is just so bad. The kitchen itself appeared unclean. Today the rice was crunchy because it hadn’t been cooked all the way. My soup was barely lukewarm. The tacos had just shrimp and lettuce, no salsa or sauce or anything (they used to, why did they take it out??) so it was sad. The tortillas weren’t thick like they used to be, just thin and stale and hard. That would have been bad enough, but the bathroom had no toilet paper. When I asked, a nice teenager refilled it and apologized, but the toilet was still left dirty and disgusting for me to figure out on my own with my little one. All the employees were polite and kind, so no complaints there. But this location really needs some love in the food and cleanliness department.

So they closed our favorite Costa Vida in NSpokane. My kids heart was shattered. Today he was so happy to have sweet pork Nachos & horchata. Pollo Asado is delish, grilled steak bowl with elote…amazing, and Mint Limeade. I didn’t know that was something I NEED in my life.

We love the food here. But the thing that keeps bringing us back is Dan! I think he’s the manager. His service is exceptional and he keeps this location running like a well oiled machine.

This place was absolutely filthy!
Food was over priced, and very sloppy ($10 for one palm sized quesadilla)
The condiment area was gross, And I mean gross! Dust all over the soda machine grime all over everything… definitely looks like the surfaces haven’t been wiped in a very long time…
The worst part for me is kids high chairs… toddler was unable to have a place to with how bad they were… I also watched another family frustrated to not find a clean one.
Crew needs to step it up ⬆️
